Benfotiamine

Hello. My 86 yr old Mother has Dementia. Has anyone here had any luck with the OTC supplement, Benfotiamine (Vitamin B1)?

    I asked my DH’s Neurologist about supplements and she said don’t waste your time.

    My dad had mixed dementia. One of them was related to a Thiamine deficiency which was treated with IV Thiamine infusions.

    Thiamine deficiency is pretty rare in this country apart from those who have specific conditions that can cause it. The most common of these is alcoholism but eating disorders, bariatric surgery, HIV, and certain cancers can be associated with it.

    Tried all kinds of supplements and alternative treatments over multiple years in early stages. The benefits were little to none. Only good thing to say is vitamins are inexpensive and generally harmless so you have little to lose by trying.
