DH I think is stage 7. He was hospitalized and has been on geti/psych for 5 weeks. Before going to Geri/psych he was down to just a few words. Now he talks non stop! Some words I understand but the stories I don’t. He has behavior problems and now can’t walk (was walking prior to Geri/psych), but lack of him cooperating with PT has caused his weight bearing to decline. This is an issue as he thinks he can walk. He has fallen standing. They have him in a geri chair with a tray to stop him getting out. My question…. Will a skilled nursing home accept him with high risk of thinking he can walk but he can’t? He is a major fall risk. He now has a sitter at the hospital to keep him in his chair. Can skilled nursing use a tray to keep him in the chair? I can’t afford a sitter but my fear is they will require one. Help!!

I doubt they will be able to care for him without a sitter to keep him in bed or in a chair. There are laws about restraints. I would speak to the nursing facility. You could also talk to a Case Manager or Social Worker at the hospital. Is he on hospice? Some of his new behaviors could be progression or from the medications they have him on.
