Good morning. The atmospheric river has begun, but now it's only an atmospheric puddle. It's supposed to last through Christmas Day.

    Good afternoon Porch Friends.

We're all so busy, let us all be safe, while out running errands and shopping.

GG. That's the biggest problem I would have living in the country, I would love all the animals. The flu did hit us hard this year. Google said flu is bad this year. We all need to be getting our flu shots. I get mine every year. I'm glad I got mine this year.

HB. Its nice to hear your mom's blood work came back good. And you had a enjoyable lunch. I would also have a flavored coffee with my lunch. I like canned hash. I warm it up in a pan and put eggs on top of it. Your dinner sounds really good, I love prime rib

Lorita. I like peanut brittle with out the peanuts. Years ago I knew someone who made peanut brittle, and I ordered mine without the nuts. I wish I could find something like that again. I also like honey and peanut butter on toast.

Eaglemom. How are Madisons ears today?

Judith. Good news about your lungs, does your breathing Feel easier?

    Hugs to all Zetta

Peanut butter and honey sandwiches are staples of hikers. Honey keeps forever, and peanut butter keeps for months, so your food will stay fresh until the bread molds. Plus it's full of protein and carbohydrates, just what you need when working hard.

Beautiful warm day here. It was 71 at 11 a.m. To be about 80 Christmas which will be a record. Did laundry today and fooled with my other table. No idea what went wrong with it.

Eagle I see the Chiefs are going to have a new stadium with a cover, in KC, Kansas Should be ready in 2031. No idea what was wrong with Arrowhead.

Kind of tired so will watch tv a while in the.bedroom and go to sleep. Sheena panted so much last night so it was hard to sleep. May have to turn on the AC or fan.

    Goodnight, sleep tight.

Good news, Judith. That wss a good Christmas gift.

Just tried to order Bulgarian buttermilk but WM doesn't have it.

Zetta, the news today said there has been over four million flu cases with ,1900 deaths. Glad we all got our shots.

Judith, what great news about your lungs! Are you breathing better?

HB, your news is great about your mom's blood results. I hope she is feeling better and will be able to enjoy Christmas with the family.

I never got around to getting my flu shot. I was waiting because I had Covid in September. It might be too late. I had my mammogram today, I wore a mask.

The slight rain that we had dried up. I'll see what tomorrow brings.

    Good night.

Good morning. I am enjoying the dark quiet of the morning ahead of a busy day in the kitchen listening to some cheesy Christmas channel on Pandora.

Judith— It sounds like you had a good appointment. I do love a medical facility with valet parking.
I'm curious about the choice to go gluten-free. I have a cousin who had a few vague medical issues as a child and young adult that turned out to be undiagnosed celiac.

Carl— BP and honey was a staple for our scouts, too. DH likes an open face PB with maple syrup and will often make that if he's fixing his own lunch.

Zetta— I use my air fryer for hash because DH likes the crispy edges and the air fryer makes clean up super easy.

Lorita— It seems like new stadia are a bargaining chip from many of the NFL teams in order to stay in town rather than be lured elsewhere.

Iris— It's not too late for a flu shot. In fact, mom's pulmo is willing to order her a second dose if the season runs long. This year's flu seems particularly nasty; that said, the vaccine is not a great match.

    _______________________________________________________________

I managed to snag everything I needed yesterday and will prep as much as I can today. I'll make a pot of beer & cheese soup and a smaller chicken noodle for DS today for dinner tonight. I'll make a cream of mushroom for a starter tomorrow as I feel like maybe my roast isn't as big as I have bought in the past. There was only one "medium" size prime rib, and the smallest of the big ones was $230. That's crazy. I hope I don't screw up cooking it. Last year it was a little too medium for my tastes.

I hope it's a pleasant day for all.

Morning, Christmas Eve Gift! Not sure what that means but mother always said that and.it has become a habit. All is well and quiet here and the sun is shining.

HB, It's hard to believe a roast is that expensive. Ranchers surely don't get that kind of price for beef although price per pound is good. Glad I'm a vegetarian. I had thoughts of making a pumpkin pie but have just about talked myself out of it.

I was worried I might need to take Sheena to the vet or at least talk to him- she pants so much but maybe she is just too warm. She seemed ok after I let her out a while last night and seems ok this morning. I actually had the AC on Last night to keep it cooler.

Iris, I just got my flu shot three weeks ago and covid Last week. I asked how long it took before covid vaccine takes effect and was told two weeks - never knew that before. I heard the same thing HB said about the flu vaccine this year. I will wear my.mask anyway. I stopped getting mammograms several years ago. Hope yours was normal.

Ron, hope that rooster didn't attack you this morning. Be careful - spurs hurt. Back later.

Picked up quiche and Guiness at 9 this morning. Had great visit about Ireland at the liquor store. The owner's family is from county Cork…mine is from county Roscommon and my grandson in law's family is from County Mayo.

    Good morning.

The atmospheric river has begun. Although the rainfall appears to be light, the poor drainage results in flooding and mudslides in vulnerable areas. The LA River which is usually low expands, and swift water rescues become necessary when people fall into the river. I live in the city but my condo walkways and parking lots are now flooded.

Of course, this being holiday time, road traffic will become treacherous and bogged down. Air traffic will become slowed or there may be cancelations. Extra patience is called for.

I hope everyone can enjoy Christmas Eve.

We are blessed with lovely spring-like weather here, sunny and 72 with a predicted high of 74 today and tomorrow. 74 on Christmas day will tie a record set in 1889. Hope you in the flood and blizzard zones stay safe and well.

There seems to be no limit to the amount of money we can spend on holidays. One of the bloggers, a self-styled financial advisor, recommends we not pay $11,250 for an advent calendar from Dior. That is good advice, but I don't need it. 🤑

I'm off to pick up DS to spend Christmas with me. Merry Christmas to all of you!

People in SoCal are being warned NOT TO TRAVEL if they are in areas vulnerable to mudslides or flooding. Not just to be careful, but not to travel at all. This is upsetting for so many people! But better safe than sorry.

Atmospheric river used to be called "pineapple express". The new term is supposed to be more scientific.

    Good afternoon all.

Thankfully Madison's ears are much better. I went to a new vet. He has a different protocol for ears, so we'll see how it goes. To me it makes more sense than the vet I've been seeing for, gulp 33 years. Sometimes change is good & I feel good about this change.

I have my last batch of cookies in baking. I'm in short sleeves and the AC is running! 84 degrees - unreal, even for us. DH insists we'll have a fire in the fireplace tomorrow because we always do. My neighbors husband insists on the same thing - tradition.

Lorita I have no idea why the Chiefs are moving other than the state of KS offered some revenue options. There are so many rumors about Patrick and his recovery. Nine months is a very fast recovery for his injury, I just hope he doesn't rush it. He is an over achiever.

I will be back later to check on everyone. Be safe everyone.

Merry Christmas eve and happy holidays everyone!

Iris - I don't remember the cows by Artesia - you'd think I would since I had an aunt and uncle who lived in Artesia. We had moved to central California by 1970, but if you saw cows in 1975, they must have been there in 1970 as well.

I've been reading about the atmospheric river in CA (which is a different system than the one we had in the PNW. Be careful out there.

HB - good news about your mom's blood work!

You know, I never knew what a Yorkshire pudding was until recently.

I don't eat meat so I'm not up on beef prices, but $200 for a prime rid seems really expensive to me.

Carl - good advice for all of us!! (not paying $11,250 for a Dior advent calendar). 😄 Your weather sounds so perfect.

eaglemom - 84 degrees, wow! I'm behind you on cookies, but I'll be there by tonight.

I made it to the gym this morning, and had a good workout. As soon as I got home I got busy on my spaghetti sauce. My s.o. had prepped the onions, garlic, and the cheese cloth bags of herbs, so all in all, it only took about an hour to have the sauce up. Now I just need to stir it for about four hours.

We're hanging out at home tonight - I think we're both looking forward to the quiet, as we've both been running around the last many days. We'll be seeing a fair number of people over the weekend and beginning of next week as well, so some quiet now will be nice.

I hope you all have a good afternoon and evening.

Iris, be careful and stay inside. How much rain is expected?

Carl, very warm and windy here. It's 77 right now and 79 is predicted tomorrow. Happy your son will be with you tomorrow.

Eagle glad Madison's ears are better. The GPs have some ear problems. I use a cleanser, then drops. Works sometimes, some.not so much. At the vets they use the cleanser, drops, then a little wax to keep the drops in. Barclee had too much ear wax so had to do his pretty often.

The Chiefs had a good run and maybe Mahomes will recover and bring them back. Kelse had too much going on the Last few weeks and couldn't concentrate on football. Things never stay the same so guess it is time for another team. Maybe the Buccaneers and Baker Mayfield (.OU Heisman trophy winner). I also like the Eagles with another OU QB. Back later.

    Almost forgot —

HB - a gift for your mom! A new video for Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here. I guess they released it since the album just turned 50. The music doesn't begin until :22 in. Lots of Pink Floyd weirdness, and the song is still wonderful.

Merry Christmas Eve to the front porch rockers. My granddaughter has to work tomorrow so we will be celebrating her Christmas tonight. Tomorrow will be Christmas with grandson, of course the parents too, but even though my grandson is 16, it’s still more precious. I believe the last time Christmas was celebrated with them my granddaughter was probably 15 and grandson 7, now they are 16 and 24.

72 degrees right now and my son is still saying I brought my Louisiana weather with me when I moved.

All quiet here now. I will stay in this evening and go to church in the morning. It is a lovely service and it is nice to just reflect what Christmas means to me.

Then on to my daughters …7 young people …two parents and two old ladies!

Hi porch folks! We're having Christmas at my dad's house tomorrow. He doesn't cook any more, not much, so I'm doing all the food. It would be easier at my house, but then I wouldn't be able to leave. :-) I went over yesterday to pre-deliver some items, set the table, locate the serving dishes, etc. Then my dad told me my brother's kids aren't coming for dinner—just to "drop by" at some point. Good thing I also got some snacky and appetizer-type items.

Lorita, my brother says his in-law family has sort of a contest of calling each other and trying to say "Christmas Eve gift" first. I don't know why, but it does seem to be a thing.

Hope everyone either enjoys or survives their weather! We're on the enjoy side here, with the high expected in the mid-60s and maybe a hundredth of an inch of rain.

I have a tradition of driving around to see lights in the fancy neighborhood near me. I forgot my camera so I couldn't take photos, but several were really outstanding.

The atmospheric river is over. The moon is out, so pretty on this crisp Christmas Eve. I was looking for the Star but didn't see it.

    Merry Christmas Eve, everyone!

A Happy Christmas to those who observe.

It's the calm before the storm here. I'm at my desk with a mug of tea and my Barbie tree. DS's light was on when I got up but he's not been down yet. He wasn't feeling well last night— sore throat and runny nose. He tends toward man-cold level afflictions, and I don't have spoons for that today.

I meant to spend yesterday prepping. I did get 2 homemade soups done, but not the roast veggies prepped or the poached pears. I burned the first batch of caramel sauce while trying to troubleshoot mom's phone. I may have yelled. I woke DH up from his nap. In my defense her hearing wasn't great yesterday.

DH and I had to make an in-person tech support visit which was a PITA. She'll be getting calls from her sister and a few friends today, so she needs to be able to answer it. Somehow her ringer was turned way down in "settings"; her phone does weird things. I have the phone set to vibrate, and the lights flash, and it's synched with her Apple watch which vibrates and flashes as well but that's no help if the watch is on the charge and then phone is in another room.

Off to make some Christmas magic. LOL.

    TTYL.
