Merry Christmas, everyone. Have a wonderful day. Weather here is warm and sunny. I better get out and feed the birds their Christmas food.

Merry Christmas!

Well, that went badly.
DS woke with a low-grade fever and sore throat. He's acting sick. One of my guests is being treated for cancer and mom is vulnerable as well. My niece and I rescheduled for New Years Eve.
I need to call mom. She is not going to be happy about this. At all.
HB0 -
Sorry, HB , that your folks are not well today. Rescheduling is probably a good idea.
When I talked with D. This morning he didn't sound good. Said he was puny and might stay in bed but he will have lots of company today.
. Sandy. I called Mike this.morning about Sheena. First he said she might have a touch of pneumonia.. This warm then cold weather causes that in animals. We talked more, then he said I shouldn't give the pain medicine and Ptedmisone at the same time. I have been doing that. So no more Prednisone. She is sleeping now. Hope you slept well. Have a Merry Christmas.

DS and I had a good time at a neighbor's Christmas party last night. We were the only guests not family but it went really well.
Merry Christmas to all of you. ⛄️

Billy came up fairly close so got his creep and sweet feed and called him. He came to the corral and had his Christmas lunch. We always fed the girls on Christmas Day.
Glad you both had a good time, Carl

Sorry you had to change your plans, HB. I hope everyone can rest up and recover by New Year's Eve.
So the girls and Billy had a Christmas breakfast, Lorita, how nice for them and you. I have a special meal for my cats, I hope they like it.
A few major roads (including interstate route 5) had to close due to rockslides, mudslides and flooding yesterday. This morning the sky was clear but now clouds are back and the wind is blowing. I'm enjoying being inside and watching the leaves swaying on my tree outside my window and listening to Christmas music.
I saw a commercial of Mariah Carey going up to a Waymo taxi. She goes up and says through the open window, "Hello, is anyone in there?" The camera scans the empty inside. Then she gets in and rides away. I suppose this is to assure us that Waymo is safe snd will be coming to a neighborhood near us.

I guess it's safe, I don't know. I saw a video the other day in which police stopped a car, the driver got out and lay on the ground as ordered, and a robotaxi drove right through the middle of the scene, between the police and the man on the ground. Didn't run over him, fortunately.

Merry Christmas.
HB I'm sorry you've had to change your plans. I'm sure your mom wasn't happy. But you've got to keep her as healthy as possible. Hopefully she'll receive some phone calls today and that will help distract her. You've got to not come down either. The entire ship sinks if you go down, or so it seems in most houses.
We're just hanging here and quite happy. I'll start dinner in a bit so its a mid-afternoon meal. I think we're going to play a game and maybe watch a movie.
Be careful everyone.

@eaglemom
It worked out pretty well after all. My niece was so slammed at work wrapping up end-of-year stuff and then hosting her DH's dad and the siblings with their families (her DH is one of 13!) she was happy to have an extra 6 days to shop instead of gift cards. She and her DH are going to visit her today and make dinner at her house. Her friend and sister will join. Alas, mom had no cash to gift these two, so I had to run to an ATM and bring her money for their cards. It's kind of creepy going to an ATM solo in a deserted shopping center; my bank's drive-up ATM was out of funds.

Merry Christmas to all my Front Porch Friends. Hugs Zetta

DS and I went to Applebee's this evening for a nontraditional Christmas dinner. I had a beer and a burger, and he had ribs and Pepsi, complete with fries for both of us. I had food at home but DS didn't much want to eat what I offered, so we just went out. DW and I did the same thing three years ago when we both had respiratory problems and I didn't feel like cooking.
It wasn't bad. The Chiefs were on one TV, basketball was on another, and some kind of dog show was on the third.
Merry Christmas to all of you.

The Guiness is all gone so time to wrap it up….Hope everyone was able to make to happy memories.

Another Christmas in the books. It has been an early summerlike day. I imagine it set a new record for high.temp. Very quiet.
Sheena is still Panting when she isn't sleeping. She is eating good and drinking. I wish I could figure out how to get her in the car. I can't lift her and Darwin isn't feeling well. She has gotten in the back seat when we were leaving the vets but we know they are always anxious to leave there.
Did.not know the Chiefs were playing. Was it a good game, Carl, and who won?
I am a little tired so will say good night.

so sorry about Sheena. You may need to call a vet that makes. house calls or ask another neighbor since Darwin is not well right now.
Having a large dog aging dog is a real problem. I was lusck to find a great vet who would come to the. house. Mike might recommend one. You hate to have her in possible pain.

Merry Christmas everyone! I hope all of you had a good holiday however you observe it.
Lorita and Sandwichone - I've never heard "Christmas Eve gift". I wonder where it comes from?
Lorita - do you have traveling vets where you live? In the past we've been able to call vets and have them come to the house. They're a little expensive, but it's nice to have the option.
Ron - I love the photo of you and your granddaughter.
Iris - About the atmospheric river - I checked the CA reservoirs - almost all of them are above average for this time of year. I read that the grapevine was closed for awhile due to accidents. That road can be treacherous on the best of days. I've always dreaded driving over it in winter.
A friend told me about the Waymos in San Francisco. There was a big PG&E power outage, so when the Waymos got to a stoplight (stoplights were out all over town), they'd get confused and just sit there. So, traffic backed up everywhere. What a nightmare.
HB - I'm sorry things were so trying today. Rescheduling sounds like it was the right answer.
Carl - I'm glad the Christmas eve party was fun.
Things were quiet on my end of the porch. It was cold and rainy outside, but cozy and nice inside. I have no complaints. My spaghetti sauce came out well - I cooked it, well, simmered it, for about six hours. That's our traditional Christmas Eve food. Today we had leftovers. Tomorrow I'll make lasagna with some of the sauce, the rest I'll freeze.
Right now I'm listening to the special Christmas Death Guild, and seeing what's going on inside the club. They do this every year on Christmas Day night. It's kind of nice because this is the "all ages" night, so everyone can join in. What it really means is that everyone brings their kids, even the really little ones. It's so cute to see little girls dressed in their pink princess outfits dancing with their goth parents (who are all in black). It's very family-oriented.

Oops, I forgot to wish everyone Merry Christmas.
Merry Christmas!
GG, I read about the Waymo traffic snarl in SF. What a nightmare!
Carl, It's like the Waymo saw an opening and took it.
Good night.

A Happy Boxing Day to you all.
My niece sent pictures from her dinner last night and it looked lovely. Except that part where she wasn't using her oxygen. This is beginning to concern me. In the past she's been able to wean off it but those were times when she'd had pneumonia or a COPD exacerbation. I suspect this is related to a progression of her CHF. She was on RA when I stopped by yesterday and was 86-88 which isn't great.
Carl— Applebee's sounds like a great option for a father-son dinner.
Lorita— Can Mike stop by and see Sheena?
Gothic G— I always get a kick out of random little princesses, the sparklier the better, with families dressed entirely differently.
I'd never heard the expression either. Seems it's a southern thing. And is it just me, but Garden and Gun Magazine seems rather niche.Iris— I hope the weather situation improves for you soon.
Lady Z— How was your dinner last night?

A wintery mix is on the way this evening. I need to get some groceries and deposit a check. For some reason, mom post-dated the check she gave me yesterday which meant I couldn't deposit it on my way home.
We're celebrating NYE tomorrow. I used to joke that the planner of this annual outing likes to eat early, but 4 days early is ridiculous. Her daughter is a cardiac NP on the actual day, so moving the day allows her to have some wine and stay up late. Her son will be there, too. He lives a few blocks from that nursing home explosion that happened on Tuesday. He said it was loud.
I hope all have a safe and pleasant day.

Good morning! Ron, looks like your Louisiana weather is going home Sunday. The Weather Channel predicts a high of 68 Sunday, with rain, followed by a low of 18 Sunday night. That's a 50 degree drop ❄️. Welcome back to the Midwest.
Lorita, I enjoyed the 🏈 game but the Chiefs didn't win it.
Iris, driving in cities is a lot like carrying the football. You try to sustain forward motion while not getting tackled. That Waymo was just lucky there wasn't a gunfight going on. Worst taxi ride ever! The worst taxi ride I ever had was in Chicago. The driver was speeding under the El and weaving around the posts like the police chase in "The French Connection." 😬

Now if my Dallas bunch could have been here it would have been perfect. Still, it was the best holiday I’ve had in a long long time.

Good morning.
HB, I had to look up Boxing Day, a day to box up leftovers and to give out treats to employees. It sounds like a great day. I will spend my Boxing Day doing leftover chores that I hadn't accomplished before Christmas.
Is your mom not remembering to use the oxygen?
Is DS feeling better?
I never heard of the "Christmas gift" tradition.
Carl, I once had a taxi driver at the airport jump out of the taxi and rush over to another taxi driver and start punching him through the window. The other guy got out and they began to tousle right there in the street. Eventually they stopped and my driver got back in the taxi. I told him I wanted my luggage which was in the trunk but he didn't listen and just took me to my destination. These were both foreigners, or what is now called "immigrants".
Ron, what a nice family photo.
The atmospheric river just passed over my roof. I thought we were in a hurricane. But the heavy downpour lasted for about 25 minutes. It seems calm now.

yes HB that would be creepy. Sounds like your DS had same thing I have had. I was better except for tickling throat and hacking cough by Christmas.
oh my Iris, I was giggling. Thank you, I don't get to do that often. I know you weren't giggling then. Here in our smallish town we just had a road rage incident a few days ago when one got shot and killed. Im sure he will say self defense. I have no idea if it or wasn't but it will be interesting to see how this plays out.
Lolita if I was you, I would be thinking about downsizing. Hope daughters made it to Darwins. Sounds like he needs help if he is willing to receive help.
My mom is receiving other visitors today so I hop to make a pumpkin pie

Hi Sandy, I never knew where the saying came from or what it meant but it was a tradition in my family to say it first.
I had groceries delivered this morning and the delivery lady helped get Sheena in the car. I had tipped $5 for delivery but gave her five more. Mike makes farm calls. When we ran Brangus cattle he was here often because the calves were so big and moms sometimes had trouble calving. We have called him to come out in the middle of the night many times to pull a calf.
He comes out and gives the GPs allergy shots. In fact he was here Sunday. He said he would come out and see Sheena but it would have been this evening and I wanted him to see her sooner. Her heart and lungs are good but she had infections in both ears and a temp. She got ears cleaned and medicated, nails trimmed and two antibiotic shots with two kinds of pills to take beginning tomorrow.
He's the only vet I know of in this area who makes farm calls and he does lots of them many miles away. The clinic was a bee hive and it will be tomorrow - all walk ins tomorrow til noon. Saw some of the cutest dogs. Sheena was really good and we walked around looking at all the things he sells. But glad to get home.
Darwin Is feeling a little better and one daughter will be there tomorrow. He is a worrier and not sleeping well.
Nice that everyone had a good Christmas. Very warm today- just jeans and a shirt but Monday it will be in thirties. Sleep well

Hope everyone is having a good Boxing Day! I know I am - any day where I can legitimately get up at the crack of noon is a good day in my books. 🙂
Once up, I got busy with the lasagna. We just finished eating some of it - I was happy with the results.
HB - celebrating NYE tomorrow? I completely understand the reasoning - that's why my family does Thanksgiving a week early, but the date for Thanksgiving varies, NYE is always (for obvious reasons) the last night of the year.
Iris - Those Waymos. I read that San Francisco is expecting another storm, so the Waymo company (whatever their name is) took their entire fleet off the roads in anticipation.
I hope the weather stays calm for you.
Hi Beth - I hope your holidays have been good to you!
Zetta - I hope you and your family had a wonderful Christmas.
Ron - It looks like all of you had a great time. I'm glad the holidays have been good to you.
Sandy - Thanks for the info on Christmas Eve gift - I had no idea!
Lorita - I've been thinking about you and Sheena today. I'm so glad you were able to get meds for her and all the rest. It's so hard that they can't actually tell us what's wrong.
It's already almost pitch black here in the PNW - cold too. I think I'm going to go have another cup of tea.
