Panic mode
Ok, I know we’ve all had some pretty harrowing experiences with all this. So we took, what I knew, was going to be our last trip to be with kids at Christmas. DW is in very late stage but always travels well because I leave early and she sleeps most of the way. Well, not this time on the way back. Like a caged animal. So we stop. Try to get some food in her which is always a challenge. Went like I expected, terrible. We get back in the car and the parking brake is on and it won’t disengage. I had to pull up chtgpt and go through 5 methods to finally get it off. Talk about panic mode. Holy….

sorry your trip didn’t go well. This disease takes so much from us. Glad you’re home safely.

I had the same thing happen to me with my parking brake, Persevere. However, my DH was home and I had two friends in the car with me. Although it was embarrassing, I'm sure it was nothing like you must have been feeling.
Glad you were able to disengage the brake. I hope your visit was enjoyable and worth the trip.

Hang in there @persevere.
Seems like the holidays add more pressure to an already difficult situation. Glad you are home safe.
Hugs💝

A Rosanna Dana moment…if it in't one thing it's another and sometimes all at once. I am familar with that helpless feeling and dealing with DH who just keeps on merrily chatting on about everything except the difficulty that I am having. Hope that the rest of the visit went well.

What an amazing thing to take on for your DW.
I totally get the panic mode when traveling with a poor LOWD in a car. It's so hard when they get to that caged animal stage. So glad you made it home safely.

What a scary experience having your DW get so upset on the trip home. Smart thinking to use ChatGPT for a solution to the brake issue. I need to explore that as an option for answers myself.
My parking brake and steering wheel locked up the other day but luckily I was alone in the truck and on my own property, about a quarter mile from the house. After calling our local GMC dealer found a quick and easy solution. Had they been closed I’d have been at a loss.
Thank you for sharing your experience and solution.

GUIDE program offered through Medicare-
Hi just wondering if anyone has signed up for the GUIDE(guiding an improved dementia experience) program for their loved one? It started in July 2024 and is a pilot program that is supposed to to run for 8 years. Only certain providers have signed to be part of this program. the program is supposed to help people with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementia and their damil Caregivers get support they need to stay safely in their homes for as long as possible. You have to have Medicare part A and B as your primary source of insurance to be eligible.
if anyone has just wondering how your experience with the program has been?0 -
Hi @aglita
Welcome and thank you for the info.
You might get more views and responses if you post this information in a new chat rather than in a reply to another’s post. I use chtgpt a lot Chance for many things including the journey with my DW. I ask it about meds, behaviors, etc. I find it very useful but you can’t let it take over. But anything from fixing things to cooking to whatever, it’s great.
