Hey, my apologies if this has already been addressed or answered.

My mom is in a MC unit & has the habit of watching TV all night long, then not sleeping at normal hours. I discussed this with the staff & I gave them permission to take the power cord from the TV around 11PM and return it the next morning to help Mom stay on a regular schedule. HOWEVER, $500.00/month has been added to our bill for this extra service.

This is just broadcast TV, so no internet connection to work with. I'm looking into outlet-timers (not promising) and researching solutions; just wondering if anyone has dealt with this type of issue before.

Could you plug the tv into a Smart plug and manage the controls from your phone app? I have my lamps plugged into these and set a routine using my (Echo?) app though I think you can also use the plug apps. When I'm traveling, I can turn off/on the lights whenever I feel like, giving the appearance that I am home. The plugs are fairly inexpensive on Amazon.

Someone here said Jubileetv is really good. I don’t know anything about it, but you could probably search previous posts to find the discussion.

As long as she has access to WiFi, jubileetv would work…it's like a cable/streaming box. I looked into it for my as an option and her AL facility provides free WiFi. Haven't purchased it yet :) (Having me pop on her screen would probably frighten her, but I like the remote TV control aspect.) Here are the requirements per the Jubileetv site:

"What is needed to use JubileeTV in an Assisted Living Environment? From a technical aspect, the requirements for using JubileeTV in an assisted living environment are they same as at home:

    • JubileeTV Console + remote (included)
    • JubileeTV app
    • A TV with an HDMI port
    • Home Wi-Fi
    • Set-top box or streaming player
    • Power outlet
    • A smart phone or tablet

However, you will need to work with the facility and your loved one’s care team for approval, WiFi information, and any other usage requirements."

Hmm… so what I'm hearing is that I need to put down my flip-phone, crawl out from under this rock & try to learn some new skills?

Seriously: this is embarrassing, but I really am a caveman when it comes to basic tech-stuff. More so than my age would suggest. Thanks very much for the replies/ideas and for pointing me in the right direction. I don't post here very often, but I appreciate everyone in this community so much.

Thanks again. Take care & be well.

If I am understanding your question correctly, the simplest answer is to go to your tv's setting and find the built in sleep timer and set it for the duration the TV should run per night.

I love ASMR hair brushing YT videos. I fall asleep to them every night, only after setting my TV to shutoff after 30 mins.

Charging $500/month for this service is criminal. If they spend 10 minutes/day performing the task (generous estimate) that works out to $100/hour for unskilled labor from a person who is already on duty. I might consider paying whatever their most basic caregiver wage is, likely 20-25/hour. Outrageous rates mean they don't want to do that job.

You can get a dumb mechanical plug-in timer at almost any hardware store, the kind that has pins to add/remove or raise/lower to set on/off times. Off at 11pm, on at 8am. Should cost under $15. If having the timer in an obvious place is a problem, use an extension cord to hide it behind furniture or behind the television.

Changing you $500. is indeed a bold statement by the MC. I would very politely ask for that to be removed as it wasn't explained to you there would be a charge. Then secondly, as others have said, I'd find the 'sleep' on the remote and set it. Obviously do this when she's not watching.

Let us know what you end up doing.

HHello...I came on here tonight yo see if anyone has/is using JubileeTV - My mother is in Assisted living and is now having problems using cell phone and, I was looking for ways to check in etc without complicated (to her) cell phone and in an email I received from 'A Place For Mom' this info on JubileeTV popped up. Does anyone here use it?

The company's site has good reviews though they are sort of general, but the App install page on GooglePlay (you need to install to control the TV etc) has more reviews and most are poor reviews. So just wondering if anyone knows the real deal with this technology. If it works the way the claim, it would be great to get (monthly membership is $39/month (has yearly and some other higher membership pkg that I wouldn't need). I have emailed the company's support email listed on their site so will see if get any answer!

    Thank you all...I appreciate it!!!

Hello....Do you know if JubileeTV is truly reliable? I wrote a reply a min ago to someone's post mentioning it - I hope you can see it above - about what I read about it and the reviews on their company site compared to the reviews on the page in GooglePlay where you download the required App - big differences in reviews so was asking if anyone here used it. Would be great if it does really work as company claims.

    Thanks!!!!
