A caregiver's invention for kitchen safety - No more burnt pans.

I’ve been caring for my mother-in-law (MIL) who has started to become a bit forgetful. Over the last year, she has burnt countless pans. The smoke has bothered her neighbors and, in one scary incident, nearly harmed her cat.
Because of this, my wife and I were constantly worried she would boil a pan dry or leave a burner on overnight. Being an engineer, I decided to see if I could find a technical solution. I started experimenting with a thermal camera mounted on the kitchen wall, looking down at the burners.
Now, whenever she cooks, both she and I receive a notification if the gas range is left on. For the first time in months, my wife and I can sleep with peace of mind knowing she is safe in her apartment.
My MIL actually encouraged me to turn this into a project to help other families in the same situation. I couldn't hold back, so I am now building the final product. I've set up a small page at www.Gaslemo.com where you can see photos of the device and its features. The thermal camera is designed to work with both electric and gas ranges.
If this sounds like something that would help your family, feel free to check out the site or drop your email there; I’d love to keep you posted on the development.

if she is burning pans and has memory issues it’s not safe for her to live alone in my opinion. There are so many things that could happen to her in addition to starting a fire. She is vulnerable to scams, she could wander off and get lost, not take her meds, fall and injure herself to name a few. If a fire breaks out she wouldn’t know what to do. I think your invention is great just not for people with dementia.
