He did it again
I had to go to my safe bedroom and lock the door cause DH was mad I wouldn’t t drive him to Ohio today. He was so verbally abusive I cried hysterically. He called 911 and told them I was acting crazy😳 The paramedics wanted to transfer him to the hospital cause it’s been 3 times plus my burn incident. The policeman said that won’t be necessary and gave me a social workers card. The young girl paramedic was clearly on my side and I was hopeful and thought maybe it’s time for him to be admitted for medication adjustment, but it didn’t happen. I called the social worker and begged her for a referral to a geriatric psychiatrist.
When the cop came in my room I was on this site….then I went downstairs and showed the paramedics and burst into tears. I said “ see this … this is my cry for help… this site right here is my only support… when he lashes out I come here … no it’s not me… my husband has dementia .” It’s all so exhausting. Trying to find help. Doctor won’t adjust his medication until he sees a psychiatrist. Trying to find help is a full time job in itself. I only sleep 3 hrs and there’s still not enough time in a day. I’ve read I’ve journaled I’ve watched videos I’ve prayed. I really just want to give up. I was kind of prepared for them to take him away today..I think…. but it didn’t happen so now im back where I started. I know medicine is the key but it’s been hard to find someone. He’s just do normal…until…. At least the girl paramedic saw it and it’s on record again, if that matters. I’m sorry I keep posting about the same thing but it could be useful to someone else.

IMO the police had to right to prevent him from being taken to the ER. I would talk to the officer’s superior and possibly talk to a lawyer about what your rights are in a situation like this. I will not be surprised if this happens again + it is crucial that he be evaluated by a geriatric mental health unit so he can be properly medicated or

Continued: be in a facility that can help him(AND YOU). Next time, stick to your guns and demand he be taken to the ER

Ask your DH neurologist about Rexulti. My DW is on it and it has worked wonders for her agitation and aggressive behavior. I feel for you.

Or, contact your local Council on Aging for information on local laws and resources.

Wose, I just want to give you a hug, cup of tea, a peace-filled space and some time to recover yourself…

I would video him when he’s being aggressive. Show the social worker the videos. Do you need a referral to a Geriatric Psychiatrist?? Or can you call one yourself?

I don't have any experience in what you are going through but I don't think you should wait. Call the Alzheimer hot line the council for the aging, a crises hot line, and find out what is available and what you can do. You need to protect yourself.

wose, can you take him to the ER? Once there, refuse to take him home. Just keep saying, "I can't take him home. I can't keep him safe." Say it long enough and they will call the social worker and you can talk to them about what is going on and tell them you cannot safely take him home.

my DH was the same way.
His PCP put him on Citalopram which seems to help him.
I was ready for a divorce
