A Spark of Joy and Repeat TV Shows
i just want to share my spark of joy. From necessity good things can happen. I was feeling so very flat and sad a bit indulgent and I was also feeling defeated and tired. We are involved with Sailability an all inclusive sailing group. When the opportunity came up to get my power boat licence, enabling me to legally drive the rescue boat I chickened out, thought I was past it, couldn't afford the time, blamed it on dementia etc. But then came the repeat tv shows which I didn't want to watch, DH didn't even notice if I wasn't watching just as long as I was on the couch with him. So I went into the course on line, spent quite a lot of time learning/memorizing the theory, then completed the 3 hours of online questions now I'm booked in for the practical next Thursday. I have had to organise a carer for 4 hours which has been hard but I have done it. This horrible disease makes having a life of your own so much harder but I think ‘little fishes are sweet’. Thank you for listening.

WOW!!….That's quite impressive, power boat license. You really found some good in the not so good. Good luck on Thursday. So glad you were able to find someone.
My “little fishes are sweet” story is …today while I was locked up in my room and crying, I took the time to call and call until somebody actually heard me … I finally got an appointment with a highly regarded Geriatric Psychiatrist in March. I feel hopeful for the first time in a long time. I told them I was desperate.
I’ll be thinking about you on Thursday🥳

Wose, a triple win. A much needed GeriPsyc appointment, a carer for DW, and taking on getting your licensure. I'll be sending you prayers of support on Thursday

This really resonated with me. Dementia makes even “simple” things so much harder, and you still found a way to do it. Little fishes are sweet — especially when they cost this much effort. Wishing you all the best for next Thursday

So glad for both of you empowering yourselves! You serve as an inspiration to the rest of us. We all need to find the strength to find a way to do something for ourselves. We really need that. Dementia takes so much and the toll on LOs and caregivers is crushing. I am so proud of both of you. Stay strong my friends.

Thank you worse I am really nervous but a little bit excited, nothing compensates and life sits on me like a great big dark cloud. I hope you find your Psychologist is good to talk to, something else to get used to talking about our highs and lows with someone is hard.

Thank you so much to everyone for the encouragement. Your comments have had me in tears this morning realising what a fantastic understanding family we are all part of and have around us. Little fishes are sweet and we need to share them.
Opps one day closer to Thursday…..

ha ha ha I like the tone of this it sits well Captain Biggles. The pen name Biggles really belongs to my DH who was a private pilot, we flew single engine aircraft with our two children all through the outback in Australia. Biggles the fictitious English WW1 pilot was his hero who took out the infamous Red Barron.
That makes for an interesting topic of why we have chosen our particular pen names. Perhaps for another time.2 -
Thank you it did, I am now properly licensed.
