Yes, I'm still around
Most of you will not recognize my name because my wife passed 3 1/2 years ago, and I rarely get on here much anymore. I hope everyone could make the most of the situation for Christmas. There may be a ray of "hope for this dreaded disease. It's not here yet, but the news is encouraging. This could change the world we live in.
Please don't forget to make sure you somehow get a little time for yourself each day. And look for and accept any help others offer you. Accepting help is not a sign of weakness. It's not smart to try to do it alone. I only wish none of you had to live this life. Maybe it won't be too long before nobody has to do it anymore. Best wishes for all.

Ed, I'm so happy to see you—and with such a boost! This is the best result I've ever seen in Alzheimer's research. I'm just sorry they spent so much time barking up the wrong trees.
Thanks for coming by and bringing us such a nice Christmas present. :-)

Ed, thank you so much for sharing the article with us. The article gives me hope that in the foreseeable future there may actually be a way to reverse and even prevent this dreadful disease.

Dear "Mayor Ed," it is good indeed to hear from you. And thanks for the link. It's a long way from mice to humans, but any glimmer of hope is a good sign. Peace be with you and yours—and with everyone on this forum.

It's really good to see some familiar names, but I only wish it was somewhere where people were celebrating the good things in life. I kind of missed seeing familiar names like M1, Joe C, Jo C, Beachfan, Lady Texan and others. I'm not sure if they're still on the site or not. I do know about Jo C. That was such a huge loss for everyone here. I hope the new year brings an easier time for everyone.

Best to you, always.

Hi Ed
Yes I am a blast from the past. It’s been two years since my Jon passed, I hope you are well. I remember those people you mentioned and you guys helped me when I was going through caregiving. My heart is with you all and I wish you a happy New Year.

Hi Mayor Ed! I was too lazy to respond to your post at first sight, but was happy to hear from you. I, too, miss hearing from some of our “old timers “ and hope that those who’ve moved on to stage 8 are well and happy. As for me, all is well. I am fortunate to have grandchildren nearby who are young enough to need rides to school, spectators at their sporting and school events, and a sympathetic ear when they’re at odds with their parents. And, so far, I am able to get oceanside for R and R on a regular basis. Best wishes to all for a happy and blessed New Year. 💕💕

Thank you for the link, Ed. Good to "see" you.
What I wouldn't give for a cure. Praying others don't have to suffer like our LOs have.

Thank you Ed! Great information as usual! Miss your advice and support and hope you are doing well! I was new to this site when I came upon your brilliant posts ! Wishing you all the best in 2026!

Thank you for all the posts. It's almost like coming home again. I'm doing pretty well, but just getting over a case of shingles. Then early this morning (3ish) I felt like maybe I had pneumonia, so off to ER. No Covid or Flu, but a minor case of pneumonia. Don't really feel that bad anymore, so a few days with treatment should do the trick.
Good to see all the familiar names, but like I said, it would be better on a more joyful place on the web. Happy New Year, and I hope 2026 brings an easier time.

Hi Ed, I have not been on this site for awhile but today I decided to log in and see if any of my old fellow travelers had posted recently. I was thrilled to see your post. I am doing OK. coming up on 1 year in stage 8 and I slowing adjusting to my new reality. From time to time I think of your post about your daughter and the pork chops and I chuckle. hope you are doing well with you my friend. Joe C.

Hello Beachfan, I checked in this morning to see if any of my fellow travelers had posted recently. I was thrilled to see Ed post and your reply. You & I had such a parallel journey that I think of you often and wonder how you’re doing. As for myself I am doing OK. It is coming up on one year sense Linda passed and I still miss her every day. I had to back away from this site for awhile for my own mental heath but perhaps I’ll check in a little more often now. Be well my friend. Joe C.

Hi @Joe C. !
I too check in occasionally and today my heart was broken when I read of Vesuvius‘s DW’s passing. It’s hard to read of fellow “veteran” travelers entering stage 8 one by one. I am approaching year 3 and on the surface, life is good. My grandkids are now playing baseball and basketball on the field and court where DH coached for so many years. Sometimes those memories are painful; he is missing so much. The kids and I are missing so much.
Stay well, keep busy, and pop in periodically. Fondly, Beachfan.1 -
Good to hear from the “oldies but goodies” it does strangely bring comfort knowing your journey, appreciating your sound advice and hearing from you now and then. Please keep in touch you have been a rock to this community! Be Well

Wow. This is like old home week—I miss my old friends from this site. So glad to know you’re hanging in there Ed. Joe C, I didn’t know you’d reached Stage 8. I hope some of the most acute grief is tempering (it never goes away). And I hear you, Beachfan—life asserts a new normal, but the loss is always there.
