hearing aids
DH's fall has affected his hearing. My son suggested we get him one of the over the counter hearing aids until I can get him onto the ENT and audiologist. Has anyone bought one of these that they are satisfied with? Any recommendations?

I don't have a recommendation but that is a good idea because some hearing aids can be pretty expensive and he may not be willing to wear them or just throw them in the trash.

I wear hearing aids. I have for almost 30 years now. They are still somewhat uncomfortable. I take them out when I am alone. Depending on his stage I suspect he will not like them and take them out. When I got my initial pair the audiologist told me "most hearing aids end up in the drawer in the night stand." You can certainly try them but do not have high expectations. Rick

Rick, I don’t have high expectations. He was almost completely deaf after the fall. His hearing is slowly returning, but unless we are shouting at him,… I guess what I am looking for should be called an amplifier.

my DH got hearing aids from the VA and never wore them. He lost them in Memory care.

Mom got hearing aids a few years before she was diagnosed. She used them some in the first few years. About the time she was diagnosed she started having trouble with them. She would fiddle with the button and then it wouldn’t work correctly for her. Even if I fixed it she would play with it again in minutes and have the settings messed up. Since she has anosognosia she believed there was something wrong with the hearing aid and would want an appointment to have them looked at. She hasn’t used her hearing aids in 2 years but insists I bring them to the nursing home for her. So my suggestion is go with something cheap first and don’t get your hopes up.

Recommend online company called, Soundly.
My DH lost one of his $4200 hearing aids. And he has lost two pair of glasses in three months. Since I anticipate he will continue to lose expensive devices, no more expensive hearing aids. I bought an OTC pair of hearing aids online through Soundly. They are Seinheiser All Day All Clear at around $750 a pair. He has had them a month and they are working fine. They are sophisticated enough to have an APP for control which I downloaded to my phone. So far, so good.1 -
Certain Apple Air Pods can be used as hearing aids.
