My DH (64) is mid stage 5 dementia. We live about 20 miles out of town in the country. I still work full time in town Monday thru Friday. He no longer drives and is at home alone while I work. I have installed cameras so I can check on him visually throughout the day. In the last few months his short term memory has become nonexistent. I’m thinking about moving into town so he isn’t as far away from me while I’m at work. I worry about the change of moving might make things worse. Any thoughts or experiences with something like this.

Unfortunately every case is different. Some LOs do just fine with a move but more than likely a new home will cause some issues, especially if you have lived in the current place a very long time. Possible problems could be exit-seeking, wanting to go ‘home’, wandering, agitation, etc. Sorry, but I dont think anyone can be definitive about this.

Would the move be worth it as your LO advances through stage 5? Not to be harsh but you are on the edge of your person needing someone with them 24/7. I had to retire early to take care of my DW. Looking back on the last year even if I had installed cameras; the number of things she would have or could have gotten into …. In no time at all they can be in serious danger even living in town may not be enough of a solution and certainly for only a limited time.
