    Good morning.

I had a nice treat this morning, a hummingbird visited a flower downstairs from me.

Morning, bright and sunny but chilly. Ron, they say it's good to save the tick in case you get sick they would know the kind of tick that bit you.

Iris, I guess the tick got on my foot or pants leg and crawled up to my back. A while.bsck the news people were warning people about ticks.. We used to put flea and tick collars on our dogs. I haven't had that problem with the Pyrenees except on their head a time or two. Guess their coats are too thick.

My mother had macular degeneration. I have Areds but forget to take then.

I need to get imo town for Billy feed and to pick up a couple of prescriptions. Bit, if the girls come back this weekend I won't be able to feed him so not sure what to do about his feed. The car is 3/4ths full but I think I will top it off before gas gets even higher.

Ron, hope you are doing better today. Hopefully, you can get some sleep today.

Judith , who is giving you bagpipe lessons?

Iris, that is such a sweet picture. You were lucky to be able to get a picture of the hummingbird. I have the feeder out but haven't seen one yet..

During the night I awoke with a btight light shining in my eyes through the window. I thought one of our exterior lights had been directed towards my window. But when I got a closer look, it turned out to be MOONLIGHT that was streaming into my bedroom. The moon was so bright against the black sky! I hadn't seen such brightness in a long time. I was very pleased to catch this glimpse of moonlight. After a few moments, the moon moved out of range from my window.

Bagpipe report….the neuropathy in my hands is not an asset to my ability to play….

HB…the easiest song we can master.

Lorita…your tic may have come from the dog. Time to put the collar on him.

Ron…you can find "senior" activities if you google Springfield mo senior activities. I see that North view has a bunch of acivities. Is that the one where you and Carl have lunch.

Decided I would go get a few things done in town. Stormy went with me. We made six stops. Topped off the.gas, just a little over five gallons at 4.39 a gallon. . Diesel is way over $5. Stopped st Atwoods to look at the Spike ATV. I like it but it has.bucket seats so don't know how Stormy would fit. It costs $6999. It is made by Hisun in China. Anyone know anything about the Spike or Hisun? I know JD would cost twice that. They had sooo many plants outside for sale but wasn't in the mood.

Went by the feed store so will have to divide the feed from 50 lb. to at least 25 - can't leave in the car. Went by the vets to get Dura Flex for Stormy. It was as busy as a beehive. Stormy is sacked out and I need a nap. Thought about stopping at pet shelter.but decided not to today

Ron, the picture is a treasure - Los of memories there. I bet I have one just about like it somewhere. I think about looking at albums but I know it would make me sad. No one in all those albums is still here except me.

Judith, I imagine neuropathy in your hands does hinder you in playing the bagpipes. Do you have pain in your hands? I have neuropathy.in my feet resulting from bilateral mortons neuroma. It hurts especially when I'm in bed.

    Sleep well, everyone. Good night

Of course I have pain in my hands. Also burning. Same for feet and lower legs. No point in giving in to it. Right.

Lorita…why are you looking at an ATV?????

Ron…wonderful photo. I love looking at old photos and remembering.

I'm not sure where I got the idea that it was frowned on for women to wear kilts. Maybe I just listen to the wrong people. 🙂 I've actually never seen women in kilts - maybe it's an east coast thing?

eaglemom - and a root canal too?? Ugh.

HB - I've had that same experience at book stores - either they won't take the books, or they'll give you a tiny, tiny amount of $$.

Ron - I'm so sorry. I know it's not the same this as having Lou by your side, but I'm glad you have family around you.

You know what, Iris? I find that as I get older there always "something to be done", whether I like it or not.

    I love your hummingbird photo.

I don't spend a lot of time going through photo albums, except when I do. What I've found, as I go through them for my blog, is that there are a lot of family members of my grandparent's generation who look familiar, but who I don't really know. I think I need to go visit my older cousins and ask who my mystery relatives are, and then label the photos.

What I've also found is that for some photos when Peggy and I were teens, if the photo is a little dark, or if we're in profile, I can't always tell which person is me and which is Peggy.

Today was overcast, although not terribly cold. Still, I was in the mood, so I made a vat of spaghetti sauce. It cooked for almost six hours. I'll make lasagna tomorrow, and then we'll freeze the rest.

Today was David Attenborough's 100th birthday! Happy birthday Mr. Attenborough.

Good morning. It's lovely on my end of the porch today.

Ron— 5 generations— that is some longevity. Are you in the picture?

Lorita— I'd not heard of Spike. I've never seen one at the dealer where I get my JD serviced. I can speak to my JD mower's reliability in its 25th season.

Judith— I could see where neuropathy would complicate this. I'm sorry. Is there any cause that could be addressed? Mom's is mostly related to carpal tunnel; she did so much better when she was compliant with her wrist splints. Alas she can't even find the one and doesn't wear the other. I have limited bandwidth for nagging of late between her eye compress, splints, PT for balance in my role as oxygen police. She pulled a button down shirt over her head yesterday to avoid buttons. SMH.

Gothic G— I just want the books gone. They're clutter. He venerates books in a manner that crosses the border into an unhealthy obsession. He's reluctant to part with even books he hates as if they're some sort of religious relic. His interests are seriously niche (graduate-level math and science) so not something one could pop into the local library and check out and not something most people would be interested in having even if free.

    Lasagna sounds amazing.

    _______________________________________________________________________________________________

Yesterday went mostly well. The new phlebotomist misread the test orders and dug her heels in over the urine test— she insisted it was a pee-in-the-cup situation when it's a 24-hour collection. Fortunately, the head of the lab checked and confirmed this, but I still had to remind her to give us the container and then ask for a nun's cap.

The tea was lovely. The room was very pretty, the food served was both plentiful and amazing. It was definitely a success. I was kind of disappointed in mom's choice of outfit. She's always buying (wasting money IMO) and trying to buy dressy ensembles she has very few opportunities to wear. She could have dressed up a bit as the venue is rather fancy (it's why I chose it) but instead, she dressed as if I were taking her to the food court at Wegman's. She has a closet full of nice spring dresses she could have chosen and nice jewelry as well. Even I wore tailored linen trousers and a silk blouse.

Niece 1 reports her dad is doing somewhat better although still crazy and fussing about the old people on the unit. LOL. Niece 2 told mom that they were told he'll need 24/7 care. I hope he improves enough for that not to be an issue because otherwise he'll need to go into a Medicaid funded SNF in this state. In other news, Niece 1's elderly FIL had surgery Monday to remove a baseball sized benign tumor from his lung; he had a stroke yesterday. Ugh.

    This is tea for 1—

My name is Joe, and I live in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

I recently wrote a song for my mom, who is living with dementia. I wrote it while she is still with us because I wanted to honor her life and give a voice to what families experience during the long, slow goodbye.

With May being National Dementia Awareness Month, I am trying to get this in front of families and caregivers who may need to feel seen and understood.

This is not about money or promotion. It is simply about awareness and connection.

Keep your heads up and your hearts filled with love. What you do matters. I know it's incredibly hard! In the end, it is worth it.

For full transparency, I wrote the song and used AI to add the vocal and music.

Here is a link to the song: https://suno.com/s/f5IXBHRhT7oTMmUt

Or, you can go to my FB page to see my post and the link there.  https://www.facebook.com/joe.akin.988711

    Sincerely,
    Joe

HB, that tea is lovely and looks delicious. Even I would dress up for that.

I guess I get to blow off Mother's Day this year. For the first time in my life, I have neither a mother nor a wife. OTOH, one of my friends from Griefshare lost her mother and her daughter last year. I probably should give her a call before Sunday. I presume her son and grandchildren will take care of Sunday.

Ron, real men can indeed wear pink. A man with whom I worked had a photo of himself and his Marine squad in full battle gear somewhere in the sandbox, all wearing "Real men wear pink" T-shirts. His girlfriend (now wife) had sent him a box of the shirts, and he returned the photo for use in a breast cancer campaign.

What do real men eat for breakfast? Well, today I had Cheerios with banana and almonds. 😋

Judith, we have had a UTV for more than 20 years and I miss having one.. I miss being able to go out and sit with the girls or just to go to different pastures - just to be out in nature. We'll see.

I don't cook bacon but I thought.that was interesting. I used to cook it in the oven.

As I was driving yesterday I saw some of the most beautiful trees, probably Hackberry- Sometimes a lone tree or two in a 25 acre pasture or trees around the edge of a meadow. All of the tres are so full and pretty.- just makes a person feel good.

Ron I agree - real men do wear pink. Both daddy and Charles had pink shirts. Good picture of you.

    Enjoy your day, back later

All the men in my family wear pink.

My neuropathy was diagnosed from a series of tests. It is genetic so nothing to do about it. I will continue to make horrific sounds on my chantor.

Nothing scheduled for today so maybe time for ancestor work. I t is sooo enjoyable.

Brings to mind, has anyone watched Wolf Hall???

And…now almost everyone in Nichols Hills has basketballs in their yard. It is a sight to behold!

Mint how are things with you?. Are you doing any gardening this year? All I have done is plant bulbs. Would like to either put vinca in the bathtub or sow rose moss seeds. I used to always have them but have gotten away from it. I hope things are well with you. How is your nephew?

Ron, I knew that was you from your prior pictures. It's so wonderful to have five generstion pictures. Do your grandkids know who those people are?

HB, I do like English teas. But what propelled people to eat like that? They can't have eaten like that every day. Perhaps the nobility ate like that. I've heard of high tea. Is there a "low" tea? Asking for a friend 🙂.

I too have a lot of books, in fact, loads of books. I just woke from a dream this morning where I had to pack up and leave from where I was staying. I was being rushed because the time was passing. I got around to my pile of books and declared, "I'm not leaving without my books!" This is how strong my book attachment is, reaching into my subconscious. Is this obsession? IDK. I do have a lot of trouble letting go of my books.

Carl, I think of Mothers Day as also to remember our own mothers, even if they are no longer here. Despite some disagreements, they brought us into this world and took care of us and got us to where we could stand on our own two feet.

When I was young in NYC, people would wear a white carnation on Mothers Day if their mother was deceased. Nowadays, I never see anyone wearing any type of carnation on Mothers Day. Perhaps I'll try to look for a white carnation, even an artificial one.

Lorita, no more tics for me, just a bump and itchy from the one. I remember the red and white rose, also the best Sunday go to meeting clothes.

Iris, grandchildren knew all generations except for the first. All those women was sweet as sugar. My mother is standing next to me, grandmother is to the left looking at the picture holding my oldest and great grandmother to the right with youngest son. I remember my grandmother always had a cookie jar full of sugar cookies. Before baking she always put a thumb print in the center of each cookie. That was her way of showing you her love!

And we are HOME! 4620 miles round trip pulling a 10,000 pound camper with a 1998 Chevy 3500 5 speed with only a 350 engine!!

We made it; avoided a multiple vehicle pile up on the Interstate yesterday because my husband is a cool hand. Today it was a BATHTUB in the middle of 3 lanes on I-20 in Memphis!!

We came home to a new baby today. That should be the last one of the season. I enjoyed seeing all my Nannies and their babies. And my dogs, and the cat. Now there’s a HUGE white bunny rabbit in the front pasture - no idea where it came from?

    Graduation parties tomorrow. We’re home!❤️

HB - I hear you about the books, especially if keeping all of the books veers into unhealthy obsession.

I always wanted to have a wall that was just bookshelves filled with books - my s.o. wanted that too, so we have that. We're both readers. Now, as we're getting older, it's time for a lot of those books to find new homes. I've been giving mine away to various friends and relatives over the recent years, but I have a lot more that really need to go. I plan on keeping my favorites, along with a set of Agatha Christies that I got from my aunt.

That tea looks amazing!! My bestie also loves a good high tea, so I go with her every once in awhile. We dress for the occasion. 🙂

I'm glad your niece's dad is doing a little better.

JeriLynn - I'm glad you guys made it home safely, and avoided all of the road hazards. I hope you both had a great time. Have fun at the graduation parties!

Ron - I knew that was you in the photo because of photos you've posted of you and Lou together. I was pretty sure I had the age order right in this latest photo, but I wasn't quite sure.

Lorita & Judith - what is a UTV?

I love that you guys like to rock pink shirts. My s.o. is a hot pink kind of guy. He's especially fond of hot pink tennis shoes.

Today was lasagna day. I was happy with it. It always seems that lasagna shouldn't take as long to prepare as it does. But it takes as long as it takes.

Our box of clothes and stuff arrived today from Charleston. We both kept some clothes and shoes at my mom-in-law's apartment, but now that she's in assisted living there just isn't room, so we shipped everything home. It just means I'll need to plan a little more before we go so that I have proper clothing to wear. She's a little conservative when it comes to clothes, so I try to dress accordingly. My s.o. does as well.

Welcome back home JeriLynn. I'm glad you made it back safely and avoided traffic snarls.

Lorita, is there anything you can do about those ticks?

I took a walk today and found some white roses at my condo entrance, so I'm going to pick a white flower to wear on Mothers Day.

Good morning, all. It's cool this morning with rain forecasted for the afternoon. Blech!

Ron— You can borrow a line from Steel Magnolia "pink is my signature color". One of those TikTok color analysists would likely peg you a "soft winter" making the shirt perfect for you.

Judith— We saw Wolf Hall. I liked it a lot although it was harder to watch as the plot became darker knowing heads would roll as it were.

Iris— The origin story for teatime is that the Duchess of Bedford found herself famished between lunch and dinner which happened around 8pm. She had her kitchen send up tea and some nibbles between 3-4pm to hold her over. She hosted friends and the trend took off. High tea is generally later in the day and would be more of a real meal especially in the north. Nursery tea is the children's supper before bed.

I vaguely recall the distribution of white carnations at church for those whose moms had passed and pink for everyone else.

    Lorita— Another tick? Yuck.

Jerilynn— That is some trip. It must be nice to be home safely. I used to commute on the stretch of I-95 through Philadelphia which was often littered with random objects but especially mattresses. Nothing like watching a couple of bozos trying to move a mattress precariously balanced on the roof of an old car securing it with only their Popeye-arms.

Gothic— One wall? He's got 4 walls (with a break for the door and double window) floor to ceiling in his library, he's taken over most of the built-in bookcase in what serves as my office. He has a four-sided chair-side table with shelves and some in the TV console. Plus piles. And they keep on coming. Amazon tells me he's ordered 9 books since mid-April including one you might like. No idea how many others he's gotten. And he knows every one of them and exactly where they're shelved.

Yesterday kind of sucked. It started with DH spilling coffee all over himself and his laptop. I was able to get the stain out of his pajama pants (his favorites— the robot print I made his last year) but the computer didn't fare so well. It's insured, but it was kind of a hassle to sort out. We bought the coverage through AllState at Costco. When it was a TV that died, we just brought it back and they gave us our money back and we bought a new one on the spot. This time they couldn't locate the policy using the information on the receipt, but they got back to me within a few hours, and I was able to file the claim to start the process to ship it to them for repair. I got it out just before the 6pm FedEx pickup. The shipper is near the Amish Market, so I even got out of making dinner.

I had tried to ship his glasses back to Warby Parker. Their customer service was of no help at all. I had the ticket number but not his customer number. He didn't use his email, so he didn't get sent a packing slip/address label but even paying out-of-pocket they wouldn't help. This'll mean a 90-minute drive, plus gas and tolls. Ugh.

Poor DS got off work at 6:30 and stopped by Chipotle for a bowl— they were short staffed and only taking online orders, so it took 45 minutes before his food was ready. He called me twice to complain about it.

That said, Niece 1's FIL seems to be improving. BIL is a bit better but still complaining he's not "geriatric".
