Hi! My name is Samuel, and I'm reaching out on behalf of my aunt, who is 55 years old and was diagnosed with younger-onset dementia earlier this year. She lives in the Chicagoland suburbs, and we've been trying to help her connect with other people around her age who are also living with early-onset dementia.
Since her diagnosis is still relatively new, she's been having a difficult time finding others who are going through the same experience. More than anything, she's hoping to build genuine friendships with people who understand what it's like to be diagnosed with dementia at a younger age.
She's absolutely open to online friendships and conversations, but having the opportunity to connect with others in person would be especially meaningful to her. The specific type of dementia isn't as important as finding people who are also experiencing younger-onset dementia and are at a similar stage of life.
I wanted to reach out to see if you or someone you know might be interested in connecting with her. We'd also really appreciate any recommendations for support groups, online communities, or organizations specifically for people living with younger-onset dementia, rather than groups primarily focused on caregivers.
We're still learning about the resources available, and I really want to help her find a community where she can feel understood, make friends, and know she's not going through this alone.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. Any suggestions or connections would mean a lot to us!
