OUCH

Just so you know, the COVID vaccine hurts. It's much worse than this year's flu shot. If your LO gets vaccinated and they scream, they aren't being overly dramatic.

I’m sorry, but I do not feel this is helpful.  I have seen dozens of people get the vaccine + not one has made a sound, let alone  ‘screamed’.   Your LO is an outlier for sure + for 99.9999% of people, they will not feel a thing.

In my state they are letting pharmacy techs with some "training" give the vaccine and I think a lot has to do with the person giving the vaccine. I had the flu shot this year and almost jump out of the chair. It hurt! I've had many flu shots that hadn't hurt, but this year the person giving me the shot hurt me. It happens and to those who feel pain-you have my sympathies.

I have had the first of my 2 COVID shots (I'm a health care worker) and it didn't hurt at all. I also had no side effects, including a sore arm, and I always get a sore arm for a couple days after a flu shot. All the co-workers I spoke with had the same positive experience. Now, I understand that some people will have some side effects, but they clearly (by reports) are in the vast minority. Please be careful about posting things that may scare people off from being vaccinated, even though I understand this was your experience. In my opinion, getting a majority of the population vaccinated is the best way to get out of this COVID nightmare.

I received the Pfizer vaccine last week, I'm simply sharing my experience in an effort to be helpful.

Maybe this is not helpful, but perhaps the injection was not properly administered?

I actually got a long-term shoulder injury after a misplaced vaccination shot (not COVID vaccine). It had nothing to do with what vaccination I was getting: they just misjudged where they should inject. The shot was placed too high on my arm (very close to my shoulder). It hurt like crazy at the time and I had lingering pain for many weeks after that. (sounds like that was what happened to Tess too)

I think it's helpful! I always appreciate a heads up if there's a possibility Mom's gonna potentially take the life of a hapless pharmacy technician so I can be ninja-prepared to waylay her.

Sounds like most folks are having an okay experience though, thanks for insight JDancer.

My vaccine was administered by a skilled NP. I could feel the burn as the serum went in my muscle. Many of my co workers reported the same experience.

Thanks for your comment, Lickety, that was the intent of my original post.

I agree that the pain was most likely due to the way that the vaccine was administered and not due to the vaccine itself.  Would you rather have your loved one suffer in Intesive Care for weeks/months on end and possibly not return home, or would you prefer the short lived discomfort of a poorly administered vaccine?

My sister and those working in her area of the hospital received the Moderna vaccine this week.  She had a slightly sore arm afterwards.  Her coworkers had a good experience also.

This could be SIRVA--shoulder injury related to vaccine administration.  The vaccine is inadvertently injected into the shoulder bursa.  I just read about it.
