Looking for a good nursing facility for my grandmother in Fort Worth, Texas

I am now in a rehabilitation center with my grandmother, who is recovering from neglect and abuse from a nursing facility. I am trying to find a nursing facility that will care for her. Due to the pandemic I am finding it hard to choose a facility. I am choosing blindly.

Medicare inspects nursing homes and the inspection results are posted online along with facility ratings. I use this as my starting point. It's not foolproof. I think staffing numbers may be self-reported by the facility. But you can at least rule out the obviously bad ones with a history of complaints etc.

The "Staffing" score reflects the ratio of nurses/aides to patients. (How many patients is one aide responsible for?) This is important. This is also a question you can ask when calling the facility.

This isn't a rule by any means, but I have found non-profits to frequently be the facilities that have the best ratings and care, even if they are not the fanciest.  (They just need to be clean with good staff.)

The State of Texas may also post information online or you can call and ask about quality ratings.

This is a rough time to need to find a new home for her. Hopefully someone from Ft. Worth will see your post and have some recommendations.

Please call the local ALZ Chapter 817-336-4949. This is the chapter that we are active in. They should be able to point you in the correct direction.

I am so sorry for what happened to your grandmother. There is no reason for abuse of any reason.

I utilized the services of a company, www.seniorlivingspecialists.com, when I was going through the placement process. They were able to separate the wheat from the chaff very quickly and I was satisfied with their recommendations and my eventual choice of a facility in the DFW area
