Anyone in queens ny area want to form a virtual support group?

I already posted in other forums so you may know about my mother.  My mother is 84 and diagnosed with dimensia three years ago.  I am her son.  She seems to be progressing in the disease.  I am scared of what i am told of the disease progression.  I pay to have a team of ladies to help me.  I do not have the physical presence of my family.  But i get phone calls.  My mother is a funny lady.  She is laughing most of the time.  She eats well.  Wheel chair bound.  I am told she is in the middle stages of dimensia.  I had a free support group at meals on wheels but the support group was disbanded.  My mothers dog was supportive but he passed away recently.  I learned a few things from reading the forums in this website.  I hope to gain a support group online.

    Hi Vinm134,

I'm not in Queens but if you looking to start a "virtual" group don't put location restrictions on the group. ALZ.org has a list of support groups, geographically listed. During the pandemic groups are virtual anyway, so you can search online or contact the helpline to find groups in your area. I attend virtual groups from east coast to west coast.

The ALZ Helpline may be able to offer suggestions. Best wishes to you in this regard, don't give up in your efforts.

Thank you.  Duh.  I did not think of that.  It is true.  Thanks again.

Today i cleared the bay window of christmas decorations and my mother is looking out the window.  I cut the bush over the few days after her dog passed away.  I was in mourning and felt the work would take my mind off of it.

Please contact your local ALZ Chapter. Hopefully they are offering virtual support groups. Also your might try the United Way or Area Agency for Aging. Where we live, we are a Dementia Friendly City - and they offer daily activities. This has been WONDERFUL. Every day at 10:30 my DH knows he gets to virtually be with his friends and have a program. Each day is different. I can't say enough good about it. Many places offer groups, you just have to hunt to find them.

Today we had a zoom conference and my mother loved it.  The man told me she has aphasia and he was wonderful in helping my mother communicate.  She liked meeting the other people in the conference call.  We played a memory game.  We talked about alzheimer's disease and dimentia.  I have more meeting scheduled for this month as well as the next two months.

    Thanks again.
