Diapers for Men, Issues?

Just to start off, this may be TMI for some readers, so don't read it if you are not interested, LOL.

After a long search any many products that just were not good, we settled on Medline extra absorbent overnight diapers with tabs. It's the only kind with a LOT of padding, especially in the back. I get it that people are uncomfortable in adult diapers, so that must be a common dilemma for carers.

But we're having another problem and it's likely a male thing.  Maybe it's only particular to my son's developmental disability as well.  He won't stop moving his penis around inside the diaper.  Soooooo, sometimes during the night we check him and wake him to find that his pajama shorts and shirt are soaked through and the disposable pads too, yet the diaper is dry.  Yikes! Last night our caregiver found out he had pulled his penis out and thus all around the diaper was soaked.

So my question is, are there any ways I can somehow bundle his business section of his body to reduce the soaking of the bed?  Surely people who have worked in nursing homes must know some little tricks. He's not going to be trained out of his fiddly hands, so I have to figure out how to deal with large urine output.

You need some big Hugs. You are a very amazing Mother to be able to care for your son the way you do. I only have a few thoughts. You have  many caregivers helping you is it possible for one of them to sit by your sons bed during the night. Can the Dr give him a real strong sleeping pill that will put him out during the night? Your son as well as you and the caregivers need some much needed rest. If he sleeps during the night hopefully this will help. Hugs Zetta

One piece pajamas or an adult onesie would restrict access. The Buck and Buck catalog sells them.

Oh my gosh harshed buzz!  I just spent an hour looking over the Buck and Buck site, never heard of this before.  I love the idea of the onsie, but I showed one of our caregivers who does overnights and she laughed, saying Drew would never wear it in a million years.  I am still thinking that maybe when he is farther along in late stage, that would be perfect.  What a clever idea!

And thanks for your support ladyzetta.  I think you may be right that if he sleeps very sound he would not be fiddly. If I had one night, one whole night away from home, I know that at least one person would have a really good night of sleep, ha ha!  I'd been planning in October to line up care for me to have one night/24 hours off at a cheap hotel around here. But then Phoenix began to quickly have the worst status in the country with rate of new infections and hospitalizations.  So, I don't think it's really safe to go to a hotel for a while.

I think you would be safer in a hotel room than in a public store or restaurant.  I took my mother in law out of assisted living on Jan 13 and we have been staying in a hotel suite. They cleaned and sanitized it before we got here and I used Lysol wipes on everything after we got here.  No one has come in the room except us and I keep wiping everything with Lysol wipes.  There is no way covid is getting into this room.  You really should consider getting away for a night.  Find a good clean reputable hotel, not a roach motel.  Good luck.

How about an abdominal support brace like often used after abdominal surgery ...it would be light weight and washable... could be wrapped to span the from top of thighs upward...and joined in the back.

The Buck and Buck apparel is way better but this might work until he is willing to accept that apparel.
