Tony Bennett's Battle With Alzheimer's Disease (aarp.org)

A very thoughtful piece in the AARP Magazine.

That really was a thoughtful piece, I'm glad you posted it.

Sometime around 1993-94, I got to see him perform in San Francisco.  I didn't go to see him, in fact, I didn't even know he was going to be there. I had gone to see The Wonder Stuff (a British pop-punk band). But Tony Bennett came on first - and he was amazing. I'm not sure how that pairing came to be, but I think it was right around the time when he started doing duets with younger musicians. Maybe he had a music video out? Stepping Out With My Baby?

Anyway, it was a great night, and it was fun to see a bunch of twenty and thirty year old Wonder Stuff fans appreciating and loving him.

I almost forgot - Siouxsie and the Banshees were there too. So - punk, goth, and Tony Bennett.

Thanks for sharing, HB. That was an outstanding article and really hit home for me.

My mother was a trained opera singer and spent her life teaching elementary school music. While she can barely put a sentence together and rarely remembers who I am, it is stunning to see her recall music lyrics and to hear her sing.

Thank you for sharing.  It appears that Tony Bennett is comfortable in his "bubble."

I too read the article.  I liked how they mentioned that things on the surface looked fine unless you knew the backstory.  Such as his comment on the weather outside.  It would seem normal unless you knew that he had just come back from a walk outside.  I wish that my LO's friends knew what my LO was going through.  Thanks to Covid, they have very brief phone/email interactions and have no idea.  My LO doesn't want people knowing.  By the time they do, it may be beyond the time for them to have their meaningful relationships.  I wrestle with creating a safe bubble for our LO to be in, but it also isolates them from their friends.
