Is it the meds, or just the late stage progression?

Could use a little insight for those who have been through the late stages with a LO.  In last 2 weeks dad has stopped walking, struggles to sit up - so very weak.  His vocabulary was limited before, but now it's just gibberish.  And his eating has decreased.

He's been put on new meds - still in the facility for that, so we are going off nurses' reports.  Could this be driven by the meds?

It could be either, depending on the medications he is being given.  I would be looking at

    having him evaluated by hospice.

Sometimes this is a chicken or the egg situation.

It could be that the new medications have led to a progression- sometimes even a change from home to a facility can do this. Or it could be the behaviors that led to the new medications are indicative of the further progression of the disease.

I agree with HB.  It could be a chicken or egg situation.  Either way, we know that the disease will progress and that medications can impact both positively and negatively.
