Moving LO into AL

Hi -

Both of my parents have dementia.  Mom has Alzheimer's, Dad has VD.  He was recently  hospitalized and is going into rehab tomorrow.  We have AL set up after he is discharged but may have trouble caring for Mom in the meantime.  She has no insight, by the way.  Worried about moving her into AL alone, that it will be more of a negative experience and be brutal.  But we may have to move her in before him.  Any advice as to the best way to proceed with someone with Alzheimer's?

Thanks -

Is there anyone in the family that could stay with her during that time. That way she could maybe get used to the AL facility.

I could stay for a few days, but with Covid, they won't let me come and go, and I have kids.

Maybe after that few days you could find someone in the AL facility that could help care for her till your Dad gets there. My DH was in a MC facility with AL attached and it seemed that in AL there was caregivers. Maybe someone in AL living would have a answer for you.

Was your mother evaluated to see what level of care she needed?  Will AL be able to provide all that she needs?  I ask because my LO seemed fine with AL at first, but once she got there it was apparent that she needed MC.  I'd explore that with the facility.  It was explained to me that she would do well if all she needed was reminders and assistance. What do you mean by your mother not having insight?

It does sound like she may need more care than AL if you're worried about her going there without your dad. Keep in mind too that he may well not be 100% when he is discharged from short term rehab, and he has VD also.
