Managing getting up, bathing and breakfasting in a timely way

My husband and I get up at 7 am.  However it is often 10 before he is ready to eat as he takes forever to shave, bathe and dress himself.  He seems to go into another zone regularly when he is doing any of these things and I often find him just sitting or letting the water run over him for a long time.  Any suggestions to get him going in a more orderly way?  He is also a diabetic and should be eating in a more timely manner.  Help!

Are you eating at home?  If so, reverse the order.  Fix breakfast, leisurely coffee,  then have him bath and dress.   If you are eating out or in communal dining room, then that won’t work of course.

Getting my DH to a doctor appointment (basically the only scheduled thing that’s a must) is a nightmare, because of how he also zones out, forgets in 10 seconds we are supposed to be somewhere.

Other than that, I essentially gave up on schedules when we’re at home with nothing else going on, except for making sure he eats enough. There is no need for us to do much in any set order, or time, and it’s just not worth the fight. “Pick  your battles,” and decide what’s really important. Having my DH not upset is usually the main thing for me, so whatever order he does things in, or at what time, is rarely an issue.

If yours must eat for diabetes, can you make sure he gets enough first thing to stave off an attack, and then let things unfold as they may? Can he eat in his pjs, or before a bath? Does it matter, really, if he shaves later? Or bathes later, maybe even tomorrow? Although, as said, if you’re in a facility with scheduled activities, that may not work.
