covid vaccine(1)

Hi everyone,

I am new here, can't believe it took me this long to register for this forum. here is a background before I get into my questions.

My mother and I are caretakers for my late stage dementia grandmother who is 79 years old. She is currently bedridden but we take her out and put her on the wheelchair for meals and so that her body moves a little.  She had hip fracture last year and had surgery but can no longer walk. During the first few months after the fracture surgery she was doing phsyical therapy and was walking but she started getting too afraid to walk about 8 months ago and now will not at all stand on her feet anymore. She speaks mostly babbles and mumbles and none of us can understand except for a few normal words here and there.  She can no longer use her left hand due to arthritis and her hand just stays in the position as if she broke her wrist.  We feed her as much as possible but food must be blended in the blender and as smooth as possible.

My main question is if you guys as late stage dementia caretakers are giving your loved ones the covid vaccine? we are five people in the home and my mom and I as the caretakers got vaccinated first (bc initially we were not sure how my grandmother would handle the vaccine being so late in her dementia stage) so we figured we would vaccinate ourselves in hopes of protecting her. But my concern is we have in home care nurses coming in to help check up on her and they are not all vaccinated, and they come in to our house wearing just one basic surgical mask at times.

we are just worried that if we vaccinate her in her condition and she gets a fever afterwards, weather or not her body will be able to handle that.

sorry for the rant, and thanks for the response in advance

Hi Jay and welcome. Yes, I would vaccinate her, for her own protection and everyone else's. Responses in older folks are good with no higher risk of side effects than anyone else. Good luck-

thank you, I think maybe it might be the best choice to vaccinate her

when I got my vaccine I asked the nurse if she would recommend it for my grandma and she said yes as well.

Has anyone actually heard of any elderly dying from the vaccine besides those in Norway?
