Feeding mom

My mom is in her 5th year. It's becoming so hard to figure out what she likes to eat. She used to eat fruits and vegetables, not much meat. Now it's a pancake for breakfast, cake mixed with pudding & cool whip & ice cream for dinner. She's lost a lot of weight so not worried about that & we have her blood work done & all levels are good. We have tried so many things from hot meals, Apple sauce, veggies. She doesn't like anything that's not sweet. I'm worried she's going to stop at least one of those. Then what do we do?????

If all her levels are good I wouldn’t worry too much. The sweet cravings are a known phenomenon. I’d let her eat what she wants. Ice cream and dairy have some protein, and you can add protein powder to homemade milkshakes

    I agree with M1.

My FIL with dementia currently has a super sweet tooth.

However, he often will eat what we are eating--chicken and veggies, or eggs and veggies, etc. if it is put down in front of him.

He is earlier in stages than your mother, I think.

Toward the end, my mother with dementia only wanted cake and cookies and ate very little non-dessert foods, though savory could tempt her.
