I previously saw a topic on the board that was something like "Dementia is _______ (fill in the blank). I could not find it this morning to add the following thought.
Dementia is: struggling to get the flushable items (urine and feces) in the toilet AND keeping the non-flushable items (you name it) out of the toilet.

Surreal and sad. Death in life. Saying it doesn't matter when you pour my iced tea down the sink and don't realize you've done it. If love is never having to say you're sorry (remember that?), dementia is always having to say it doesn't matter. Let it go, as my granddaughter would sing.0

Yes!!!! DH says "I'm sorry" and "I'll remember that" so often I want to scream, cry, or laugh hysterically (if only you could remember). I've lost my friend, partner, companion, help mate, and myself! Dementia is a thief.0

Dementia is to me about MEMORIES..............The fact is on many days now DW has little to no memory, and on many days all I have to cling to are memories........52 years worth of wonderful memories that try to drown out the reality of day to day declines.0

Dementia is like fighting the biggest bully every day. I am fighting back as hard as I can and all the bully does is laugh. I am tired and beat up. I just hope one day I win. I will keep fighting this SOB.0
