Our town (probably most) has a couple groups on Facebook devoted to residents and issues of our town. I have seen many posts from people looking to hire --- babysitters, dump runs, snow plowing, private elderly care. You might see if your town has that. Otherwise, it's word of mouth. Nursing homes and home health agencies have strict rules prohibiting aides from working independently for their clients, at least for a period of time after the professional relationship ends. Hospitals may have that too, and certainly don't want to lose good employees to other jobs, so I doubt they would be a go between. And, there's always the old fashioned newspaper ad.

If you have a college in your area with a nursing school, that may also be a place to look. The one near me has online job boards one can post to looking for help. Word of mouth is often the best way to find people. Also caregiver support groups - often people there know of caregivers looking for more hours or whose client has passed away etc.

I’ve used Care.com in two different states.  When I was only looking for a CNA I just mentioned in my post and was able to find them.  Then I just invited caregivers for an interview if I liked their profile and after talking to them on the phone.

    Good luck with your search.

I too have had good candidates with Care.com, but ultimately hired a caregiver my sister and mom met in a nail salon! Her last dementia person had died a couple months before and she wa ready to start working again.

Three years later, she's still with us in Mom's final days.

p.s. Care.com's Nancy Taxes has been a good payroll service too.
