Fibbed to Dad about doctor - ok?

My Dad ( not yet diagnosed) has previously scheduled CT scans of neck and lungs at his cancer center this week,  Called his family doctor and asked if they could get the cancer doctor to add a head CT scan to it because my Dad has been making up stuff along with dizziness and showing paranoia and poor judgement. Unfortunately the cancer doctor now wants to see him the day before these scans in addition to the appointment scheduled immediately after then scans.   I fibbed to my parents and told them Family  doctor had asked for the additional scan due to his dizziness.  I’ve told both doctors why I want the scans.I can’t go to the extra pre-scan consult.  Praying no one tells him I asked for the scan and the extra reasons why. His paranoia is directed at me

I've fibbed to my mom plenty to get her to go to the docs and what a test is for.

But... I don't know whether you have medical proxy or POA.  So without the medical consent, you do get into  murky area with the doctors.  But the doctors can listen to anything you have to say about their patient even if they aren't able to share info back.

What I encourage you to do is write a document to send to the doc. You will probably need to fax this.  If you have the hippa release or medical proxy, look into electronic access to the doc as I have.  But make sure to detail what is going on and get it faxed over the day before so the doc can review before the appointment.  Leave your cell phone, although unlikely you will get a return call, so be as detailed as possible.

And if you do have the hippa release or the medical proxy, you can follow up with the doctor after the fact as well to find out how the appointment went.  And if they don't have those documents yet, you should plan to get those documents to the doctor's office.

I have medical POA for both parents.  And am on  the HIPPA release form too.  I go to many of their appointments with them. My Dad refuses to believe there is  anything wrong with him and thinks that I am too involved in their affairs. if I told him he’s acting like he has dementia he’d refuse to cooperate.

The extra consult yesterday went off without a hitch.  The extra scan today was done and  it was normal.  However his B12 level is so low that he has to get B12 shots weekly for 4 weeks and then monthly.  He also has to start drinking Ensure ( or the equivalent) two or three times a day.  The doctor thought the B12 level explained some weird confusion etc.

He’s got enlarged  lymph nodes in his neck ( possible reoccurrence of thyroid cancer).  The thyroid cancer that’s being monitored in his lungs has not grown.  However a new ‘spot’ in one lung is not thyroid cancer. It was originally spotted on a December scan and today’s scan shows it has doubled in size.  So PET scan next week.

Mom will not deal with this well.  I’m sure her dementia will progress.

Well thats certainly a good news/bad news situation; the B12 level is very treatable and you may notice improved mental functioning pretty quickly. The lung mass, not so much, and I'm sorry for that.
