It sounds like it's time for someone to start accompanying your loved one in the bathroom. If he/she is leaving the bathroom a mess, then he/she is also probably leaving themselves a mess. Many people with dementia reach this stage - it can be many factors: memory, not recognizing common objects, problems with multi-step tasks, general confusion, etc.

I am having the same problems.  LO is able to use the bathroom on their own but needs help with the cleanup.  Our issues are not flushing the used toilet paper, it almost always ends up in the trash.  And this morning I was woken up to find the Depend's they were wearing had been shredded and thrown in the toilet.  Usually when the Depend is shredded it goes on the floor or the trash, so this was new.

LO just can't remember that I tell them all the time to flush the used toilet paper and to not shred the underwear.  But I guess that's for my sanity as I know they don't remember anymore.  I was thinking about making signs for the bathroom to help remind what to do.

    Sorry you're having these problems.
