Covid vaccine effects

Hi, has anyone noticed a change in their LO after the COVID vaccine?  I know that this disease is so unpredictable. However, as the family was discussing drastic changes in our mom over the last 3 weeks, someone asked if anything had changed recently that could have triggered her decline.  She had both Pfizer vaccine shots over the past 4 weeks.  I know it could be totally coincidental but just curious if anyone has seen any changes post vaccination.

Hi Sunseeker.  While I am extremely hesitant to say anything that might make anyone decide against the vaccinations, I have to say there was a change in my father about two weeks after the Pfizer shots.  Before I go too much into that, though, there were changes two or three months before that where his cognition, balance, stamina and general ability to deal with the world had noticeably declined.  Looking back, I now know he was developing a slowed heart rate, which was diagnosed after several falls in a short period of time.  He's had a low level of agitation/anxiety since developing dementia, usually expressed by rummaging through closets and drawers.  Four nights ago he had a forty-eight-hour episode that left him so exhausted he was unable to roll over for bathing. I had to place him in a care home for both our safety, and he really hasn't come back up to his former self yet.  He's also on hospice for the heart disease.  Just in my opinion, IF the vaccine has anything to do with his current condition, it would be because of the already weakened state of his ninety-five-year-old body.  When the vaccine asked his immune system to ramp up, it took away resources from that slim margin that keeps him going at all.  I just know that the whole thing makes me really sad.

So, my mom had about 1/2 a day of a really bad decline after her 2nd shot, and then rebounded. Boy it was scary, especially because I know it was a window into our future.  I'm guessing she had the typical bad 2nd shot symptoms that she couldn't express because feeling sick made her dementia that much worse.  The main thing is I think, give the doctors all the facts, and let them puzzle it out, but they can't do that if you don't tell them first.  Any vaccine could have an adverse affect of a small % of the population, but medical professionals need accurate reporting to help understand what is happening, and adjust as necessary.   Good luck

Sunseeker, I'm sorry I don't have any information to share about mom's reaction to the vaccine because she actually hasn't had it yet. We think we may be able to get her in soon for the J&J vaccine. Some of our local pharmacies carry it and will come out to the car to give it her.  They are all out of vaccine right now, but she is on the waitlist at all 3 pharmacies, whichever one can take her first. I think it might be soon.  I would love to know if anyone's LO has taken the J&J and what their reaction was?? The "one and done" shot will be easier on mom since she'll  have to leave the house only once, but of course I'm worried about side effects.

My sister had both doses of the Pfizer vaccine. For the first round she complained that her arm was quite sore (I know that's an expected reaction).  For the second round, she had a sore arm, plus she was a little achy and had a slight headache (also expected).  I didn't notice anything else different about her.

The one thing that is different about her is that she's young(ish), barely 60, so it's possible her early-onset AD and age account for the mild symptoms.

LO has only had their first vaccine.  We noticed a lot of extra sleeping for about a week after the shot.  After that typical behavior returned.

Not looking forward to the affects of the second one we get next week.

I had chills and low grade fever and body aches starting 12 hours after my second Moderna shot, and lasting for 24 hours.  I also had mild fatigue requiring a daily 2 hr nap for 4 days.  I'm fine now. I feel protected.

Thanks everyone.  My mom continues to improve.  We think maybe she just had some of the common side effects in these posts and it manifested in her fear and anxiety that went into overdrive as she knew something was wrong.  She seems to be back to the stage she has been in for some time, whatever that stage is currently.
