Depression and Anger

We are entering a new stage in my mother's dementia.  She has been suffering a great deal with depression and episodes of anger.  The articles and books I'm reading talk about triggers and things that could cause the episodes.  Recently her hysterical episodes have happened when she is alone so we are not sure what could be the triggers.  She texts or calls one of us crying and so upset about a certain circumstance that no one can change for her.  We're learning how to redirect, but I'm just wondering if there are some other triggers we could be on the look out for and try to change.

Hi there and welcome to the forum.  Lots of good folks here who will offer advice.  It occurs to me to wonder whether television could be a trigger, if she's alone?  My partner responds oddly to news stories now--I try to keep her away from them.  Other folks have reported needing to curtail watching of crime shows too.

Hi SSM! Welcome to the forum.

It very well could be something she has seen or heard on the TV. So much violence. My Dad watches war movies a lot and my Mom watches with him. She’s really not paying attention but I do wonder if it causes her emotional feelings that she can’t verbalize. I hope you can get to the bottom of this. I wish you well.

My husband gets upset over the news. He often gets really angry even though he cannot do anything about the situation. I try to limit him watching the 24 hour news channels. Local news doesn't affect him as much.
