Finding Memory Care from another state

This is my first post on the boards. I'm overwhelmed with (and thankful for) the amount of information here, through the ALZ Association and others that work with dementia and memory care. I would like to know if there is a resource for finding facility care for those who have loved ones in a particular region that is peer recommended? I'm getting a lot of calls and messages from facilities but don't know if their level of care is reliable and would like to know from those who have had experience. My Mom lives in the Raleigh NC area. Is there a group here in that region?

Thanks so very much for any guidance.

    One of the best resources I found was the long term care ombudsman program. For Wake county the contact should be--Aimee Kepler -- [email protected] -- 919-558-2719. It is under the triangle j council of goverments, which is under ncdhhs. The Eastern North Carolina chapter of the Alzheimers association has several local support groups, some of which might still have a virtual option.For nursing homes try to contact the family council.

    Good luck sifting wheat from chaff-

    You can do some important screening from where you are. Ask for a copy of their license, contract and training for new staff as well as ongoing training. Then you can check inspections, violations etc online.care.

    My cousin was at Glenaire in Cary. This may not be a placement for your mother but they might make a recommendation.

    Hi RVAmom and welcome! Are  there other family members in the Raleigh-Durham area? I ask because I've been a long distance caregiver at the AL level, and it's a bear. My trip was from (perhaps your?) RVA to Albany NY, for which there were no nonstop flights in case I needed to get there fast. When my brother and I had been nearly killed by a horrific hospitalization (of Mom, not us), we moved her to MC near me. I could pretty much meet the ambulance at the hospital if she got sent there, and a couple of admittances were avoided because of that.

Commonly Used Abbreviations

DH = Dear Husband
DW= Dear Wife, Darling Wife
LO = Loved One
ES = Early Stage
EO = Early Onset
FTD = Frontotemporal Dementia
VD = Vascular Dementia
MC = Memory Care
AL = Assisted Living
POA = Power of Attorney
