Has anyone in here given LO any CBD products?  I was curious to see if anyone has had any luck using.  My DH is having to use a medication for his anxiousness and thought that perhaps I could use as an alternative to so much medication.  Any suggestions?  Aroma therapy and massage only work so much…

I have tried it on my Mom with no noticeable results.  She was stage 5/6 though so maybe in earlier stages it would help if there is agitation....

Here is a Post from awhile back, please do check with your Loved One's (LOs) physician first to ensure there is no conflict with medications being taken for any other conditions.

    Earlier Post:

First priority:  Do No Harm.   This is a substance that can interact with other medications, so please discuss initiating this with your LOs physician and pharmacist which will be specific in regard to your LO.    What has been lacking are good, large, credible studies performed by credible science based groups.

Consumer Reports magazine has done articles on CBD Oil and used input from credible medical sources;  they give good information re how to purchase the oil safely; that is important as there are definite risks from some of the purchases including contamination, harmful additives, doseage inaccuracies, etc., so if you decide to purchase cbd oil, be sure to check out the safety of what you are getting by reading their advice.

For anyone who is going to use cbd oil for a LO or themselves, it would be good to read the following before buying so that one can make an educated purchase and be much safer.

    https://www.consumerreports.org/cbd/how-to-shop-for-cbd/

    https://www.consumerreports.org/cbd/cbd-goes-mainstream/

Here is an article re CBD from Harvard University:

    https://www.health.harvard.edu/blog/cbd-and-other-medications-proceed-with-caution-2021011121743https://www.health.harvard.edu/blog/cbd-and-other-medications-proceed-with-caution-2021011121743

    Grapefruit and CBD Oil:

    https://www.forbes.com/sites/daviddisalvo/2019/06/30/what-cbd-and-grapefruit-have-in-common-when-it-comes-to-drug-interactions-risks-you-should-know/

Every person is different in how they will react to any substance; cbd oil included.   Interestingly, though some use cbd oil to assist with anxiety; in some people, cbd oil has actually caused anxiety up to panic attacks. If you are going to use cbd oil after clearing it with your LOs physician, it would probably be best to start low and go slow.

Stage 6 here, and CBD did nothing for us.  But honestly, no meds we're on for sleep or brain functioning have helped much at all either.

MIL has taken it upon herself to order CBD oil from Amazon. She, of course, forgets that she has it and when she discovers it she'll take some (I haven't been able to discover where she hides it). I asked her once why she took it and she said it was to give her energy - which lets me know that she's completely forgotten that it is supposed to help with anxiety.

Since she doesn't take it very often I can't say I've seen any benefit - but MIL is also in the Stage 4-5 range so I don't see anything helping much - even her prescription for anxiety.

One of my good old friends used CBD oil in the early stages to help him relax and think more clearly. It helped him for some time before he started to feel worse, and essentially no medication could help.

Here's our situation with CBD. My mom's 90 and I wish I had an evaluation number to put behind her illness but if I had to guess, it would be STAGE100. Our usage with CBD came when I was truly freaking out over my mom's behaviors and then I spoke to a friend who had gone through everything I was going through and she went on and on about how CBD was a godsend for her mother, and I was in such a panic state that I went and got a bunch for my mom.... without doing any research. I wanted a godsend. But it was evident within the first hour, that this wasn't for my mom. It almost intensified the behavior we were trying to escape. I think it was because she's too advanced with this and it might have helped if we would have done this years ago.

I  know that I would rather take a bite of an edible" rather than take a drug with a blak box warning or one that shuts down my insides. My PCP and my Neuro agree.

Do read the above link on "How To Shop For . . ."  That product checking is very important and not worth trying to shortcut.

Also, the following is important information from Mayo Clini; the underlining is mine:

"CBD use also carries some risks. Though it's often well-tolerated, CBD can cause side effects, such as dry mouth, diarrhea, reduced appetite, drowsiness and fatigue. CBD can also interact with other medications you're taking, such as blood thinners.

Another cause for concern is the unreliability of the purity and dosage of CBD in products. A recent study of 84 CBD products bought online showed that more than a quarter of the products contained less CBD than labeled. In addition, THC was found in 18 products.

If you plan to use products containing CBD, talk to your doctor."

Like anything else, caveat emptor; we must use due diligence as in the link for how to shop for reliable products as our LOs cannot do this for themselves and we owe it to our LOs to take the little bit of time to ensure all is above board and well.

I definitely considered it for my LO/PWD, as a naturalist.  I didn't use it for her, but I am quite knowledgable about CBD. Know before you buy.  So, for what it's worth:

Most CBD oils and edibles are made from CBD isolate -- an extraction of only the CBD molecule. You can buy "full spectrum" CBD oil/products, which is the whole plant rendered into an oil.  (There is a lot of benefit in the other elements of the plant beyond its CBD. Those benefits referred to as the "entourage effect".) Full spectrum CBD will contain a very small (legal) amount of THC, which is said to work alongside the CBD, naturally. It is not enough THC to cause a "high" or psychedelic effect.

To better ensure what you are getting, you can buy whole CBD flower/buds. You can use that to make your own oil or bake with it. The drawback would be that you don't have a measured amount of CBD. Requires some trial and error. (I buy from Tweedle Farms.)

I have tried many CBD products for myself. I have found only 1 CBD oil that had any effect on me -- Charlotte's Web. Charlotte's Web is kinda the gold standard. It is the company that produces medical marijuana, sold by states. Named for the little girl with seizures that prompted legalization of medical marijuana.  (Reminder: Legal CBD is _not_ medical marijuana.)  It is the most expensive, but has that quality legacy.

Well, luckily, CBD oil you'd buy from Amazon is likely not true CBD oil. It is usually hemp oil made from the seeds only, which is more a culinary product (albeit sold deceptively as CBD oil). Will impart health benefits but little more. Might work as a placebo for her!

My neighbor was on good sedatives which worked well for him. Unfortunately, I don't remember the name of it. The only thing I know for sure is that he bought them on https://www.canadapharmacy.com/  . I think it is better to consult a doctor before taking something like that

I've tried CBD as a painkiller, and it worked. It doesn't make me stoned or something. TBH, I was a bit skeptical about it.

I think that CBD products can be an interesting alternative for managing anxiety. As far as I know, many people have had positive experiences with them. Personally, I've found THCA diamonds to be quite helpful. They have some unique properties that might be worth exploring. However, it's important to note that everyone's situation is different, and what works for one person may not work for another. It's always a good idea to do thorough research and consult with a healthcare professional to find the best approach for your DH's anxiousness. Aromatherapy and massage are also great options to consider.

I give my DH 2 CBD gummies each day. One in the AM & one before bed. They seem to calm him a bit and help him sleep. CBD has other benefits too. I use a company called FAB. I have no financial interest in the company. I did a lot of research before I bought from them because I can't use the oil due to liver problems. Their customer service is outstanding. The gummies taste good and if I forget them he asks for them. I take them too for inflammation and joint pain and for sleep. I asked his PCP and his Neurologist and they said it's fine but to have him take them 2 hours before or after he takes his other prescription meds. Always ask his doctor. www.fabcbd.com
