How do you deal with paranoia?

My mom was diagnosed in Feb with Alzheimer's. She was put on meds back in April but she is extremely paranoid, accusing my dad and myself of stealing from her, sneaking around to put her in a home etc etc how to deal with this? My dad is quiet a bit older than my mom and it is taken a toll on him and I am not sure how I can help him. I have reached out to the doctor and she has upped her meds.
Any information, or resources and advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Michelle

Welcome to the forum Michelle. You're on the right track with meds for this, but sometimes it requires an inpatient stay to really get it regulated, and this kind of behavior also prompts memory care placement sometimes. If she's threatening your dad, I would take her to the ER and ask for a geriatric psych evaluation/admission. And it depends what kinds of meds--atypical antipsychotics typically work best for this, like Seroquel or Risperdal. Good luck---others will respond0

Hi Michelle, so sorry you are going through this. My LO started to have hallucinations and delusions two weeks ago. We had her evaluated at the ER and everything was normal. So we were told this was her Alzheimer's disease progressing. We moved her to memory care and started her Risperdal. The combination of the meds and a smaller environment have helped. Our mother died of Alzheimer's disease however she did not go through this. Hope you can find help and peace.0
