MIL tripped on our stairs - and water bats
DH and I had the flooring replaced on our stairs and bedroom level last fall. We replaced the carpet in the bedrooms but had hardwoods put down in the upstairs hall and on the stairs. We've been worried that MIL (who always wears socks) would fall down the stairs. We purchased her some no-slip socks and explained that she needed to wear them so she wouldn't slip on the stairs, but, of course, it did no good. We don't even know if she remembers she still has the socks.
Anyway, she slipped coming down the stairs a couple of days ago. It doesn't appear that she suffered any major injury but she's complaining of a pulled muscle in her thigh and has been staying in her room for most of the last couple of days. Today she came down to get a 2nd cup of coffee and said she was going to stay in her room and "clean and gather things" today.
She knows that we will be taking her to Sib #1's house for an extended period (they are taking over as primary caregivers for a while) but we're not sure if she realizes that we still have several days before we leave. At least Sib #1's house is on 1 level so the fear of her falling down the stairs is greatly minimized. When she returns to us next summer we plan on having her stuff moved downstairs to a smaller bedroom and where the stairs are carpeted.
BTW - I had to chuckle when she saw a picture of a stingray and called it a "water bat." I think that's a pretty apt description of them. Sometimes my only moments of levity are when she creates 'names' for things.
