Meant to be

My DH died on April 7th this year. As you can imagine I'm being swept up by waves of grief, although interspersed with days I feel OK. I talk out loud to him every day and, on good days, chuckle with him.

Last week I suddenly thought about the circle of life and wouldn't it be nice if I could find a puppy born the week that DH died. I soon decided against a puppy, because I'vn = just gone back to the office, post-COVID, so that wouldn't work. So I thought I'd find out about adopting a kitten. The first rescue I contacted wouldn't let me have a kitten, because I have a dog - plus two cats, might I add! So I contacted a second rescue and went to look at seven 13-week old kittens. I'd decided on one, then the shelter person said I should look at one more, even though he was only 11 weeks old. He was wonderful and I decided to go with him.

It was only when the shelter person had stepped away to complete the paperwork that I noticed the kitten's shelter name: Mikhail. DH's name was Michael! So, on the three month anniversary of Michael's death, Mikhail came home and joined the family.  He is a total bundle of happiness and joy!

In general I'm not really a believer in "signs", but even I have to say this was meant to be!

What a wonderful story, aod.  I do believe in signs and miracles, but I don't think that every good thing is a miracle, nor do I hold that every bad thing is some kind of sign either.  What I do hold onto always are memories. At the end of the day, we are alone with our memories, and the good ones are what keep us going. Your kitten story of Mikhail is one of those good ones, I think, and if  you don't mind, I'll add it to my storehouse of good memories.

My Barbara passed on December 20 of last year, and I do pretty much the same as you do. I keep the last picture I took of her  ( living ) on my computer desktop, and I talk to her every day. Her stuffed animals share the bed with me and I try to always remember to close the pantry door at night so that she won't wake my up to make sure that I did it.

I'm glad you got little Mikhail. He's going to keep your thoughts moving on the plus side.

    Chris
