Moving Mother again...Another Facility....Anyone else have this issue

Memory care. So difficult to find a place that fulfills their obligations and actually provides care. Not group care. But care. This will be the 4th place.

Covid 19 visits: I mentioned the difficulty we have faced in getting good care (in my last post..Release us from Alzheimer’s Prison).

One suggestion might be to contact a couple of the private care agencies such as: Comfort Keepers and others..to see where many of their caregivers are working. For instance there are some skilled care facilities that always have a lot of private caregivers who work there (hired by family) because their families are upset at the care they are/are not receiving and hire private care to ensure that their loved one is not being neglected. I don’t know if they will be responsive to your request for this kind of information, but it’s worth a try.

It is so challenging. I hope you are able to find an acceptable place.

    Take care.

    Sandy

Facilities are having more trouble than usual keeping staff. High turnover almost always equals less than optimum care. Then there is the sales staff which sometimes will lead you to expect a level of care that the facility actually does not provide, not to mention that we often don't know the right questions to ask. Four moves is a lot to deal with, I hope this one works.

Might you be a little more specific about the care you are having problems with?

Not in any order but here are a few of the issues.

    -5 directors in 4 years

-4 kitchen chefs or food services in 3 years.

-mixed up or out of medication

-unwilling and refusal to check on mother

-non english speaking care staff...excuse me, elderly with hearing problems cannot understand a non english speaking person.

    -lost laundry

    -lost items

-care staff that enters room and refuses to talk with and or inform mother of why they are in room. This causes panic.

-hired director of memory care with ZERO memory care experience. Just a care person who has been at facility for 3 years.

Mother fell and no one noticed or came in to check on her.

---ALL of these places rent beds, nothing more.
