Question about Seroquel

Hi All

I've been searching through all the posts and haven't really found a direct answer on this. My gram was taken off Depakote and is now on Seroquel.  Sleeping a lot.  But so far it's been a week and she's improved. One of the neurologists indicated it would take a couple of weeks to work but her NPRN indicated it's effectiveness is immediate. I admit to being confused.  It's immediate yes in terms of sedation - I know in some cases lower doses of it are used as a sleep aid. But from the reading I have done including here, it seems that it might take 2 - 4 weeks to note any behavioral changes.  I guess I am confused. Should I not expect that to happen or for the drug to basically act as a sedative?

Sedation is immediate. Full effects behaviorally take up to six weeks.

Reactions to Seroquel can be very dose dependent, too. Dad took 25mg after dinner because he tended to get agitated and aggressive at night. The first week or so it seemed to sedate him more than it did once he was acclimated to it. Later we added a second dose with breakfast and noticed an increase in daytime sleepiness for about a week before he became accustomed to the additional dose.
