 TAKE UP MY CROSS

 

GOD THOUGHT:  Matthew 16:24 NIV

“Then Jesus said to his disciples, ‘Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.’”

 

VICTORY GOAL:  I am Jesus’ disciple, spreading the good news about Him and caring for those who are in need.  

 

POWER PRAYER:  Spirit of Jesus, enable me not to hesitate in sacrificing my time, energy or money to do Your will.  With Your strength and guidance may I gladly take up the cross I am given each day.  Amen

Sis , I must admit that this verse used to cause me problems, until I realized what it truly means to deny ones self.  I believe that what Jesus is saying here is for me to deny those parts of me that are denying Him. I never get anywhere by trying to just share myself with Him. I have to totally give myself over to His instruction and to His love, and then, and only then, will I be free to be myself.

We are always in the position of having to see ourselves in the context of our other loves, whether that be our mates, our world, our jobs, our hobbies, etc. When I can see myself in the context of my savior, things look so much better.
