Shoe Recommendation

My husband has an issue with swollen ankles and feet. Trying to put his shoes on has become a real struggle. He has Lewy Body dementia and is very unstable when walking, therefore cannot wear slip on shoes.

Can anyone recommend a shoe brand that would be easy for me to get on him? He will not wear sandal style and they need to be fairly light weight as he has difficultly lifting his feet off the ground.

Thank you.

My husband wears light compression socks and loves them. He does not wear them at night, but during the day with his sneakers. It has worked well. i bought them after he had fallen and broken his hip and they do the trick.

You could try a wider width and/or a Velcro closure. Many shoes come in wide (E) or even extra wide (2E). He may even need to go up half a shoe size.

If it’s difficult to shop locally, Zappos https://www.zappos.com is a great site. They have many options and returning shoes is very easy.

I wear wide shoes from Orthofeet. I can not tie them so  I tuck extra length of the laces back under the criss-crossed laces. I have a serious balance problem but feel very secure.

I buy only Skechers for my husband.  They have many lightweight styles.

Thank you for the suggestions. As he progresses, it is getting more difficult for me to get anything on him. Takes me at least 3 times to get him to position his foot so I can use a shoehorn.  Very frustrating.

There are shoes with the back of the shoe drops open...slide the foot in, close the back and carry on.

I'll try to do a link.

Here is how Nike's Fly Ease works.

Here's some black Nike's extra wide, fly ease.
