‘Everything I Own”

A tender moment.

Among the many things I learned here is that Bread’s “Everything I Own” was written by David Gates for his father, who I understand suffered from dementia.

So I bought the sheet music.  I sat down at the piano and played and sang it.  My DW came into the room and sat by my side.  When I finished, she looked at me and said, “I love you so much. I’m going to cry.”

She didn’t.  But I had to turn my head away so that she wouldn’t see the tears in my eyes.

It's not hard to understand how you could get emotional over something like that. Tears can come at unexpected times, and for different reasons.

Jeff, I always loved this song but never heard the back story before. I just listened to the original version and it brought a tear to my eye. Thank you for sharing.
