I'm curious to know if anyone on here is in the Southeast Massachusetts area and has placed a LO in a nursing home that accepts Mass Health/Medicaid. Lots of factors to consider and always prefer to get opinion from someone who's been through it.

I am on Cape Cod, the Upper Cape, so that is all I can speak to. JML Care Center in Falmouth is the best around here. My DH has been there several times for rehab, not long term, but the care is excellent and the facility is lovely. They do accept both Medicare and Medicaid. It was built and given to Cape Cod Healthcare by Josiah Lilly (of Lilly Pharmaceuticals) in honor of his wife Josephine who had died, so no expense was spared. Anyway, it may not be exactly in the area you want but I am passing the info along.0

thanks for the info. That's a bit of a stretch geographically but I'm curious how you found it? Did you just luck out or was it a referral?0

DH went there for rehab from the hospital, not long term placement, so the hospital coordinated the referral. But I also knew about it from its reputation in the community. You are going to want a place fairly close geographically so you can visit often, and get there quickly in an emergency. Medicaid in Massachusetts doesn't pay for memory care or assisted living, with very few exceptions. It will have to be a nursing home. Have you contacted your local senior center/Council on Aging? most of them have an outreach worker who can talk with you about the choice of facilities in your community. She should steer you in the right direction, but the main thing will be to visit yourself and see what kind of feel you get for each place. Is it clean, well kept, odor free? Do the residents look clean, neatly dressed, comfortable? How is the staff interaction, does it seem warm and attentive? Your gut instinct here won't let you down.0
