IS there new research on this, I was wondering and found this from a publication. Individuals whose spouses were diagnosed with dementia had a six-fold greater risk of dementia, even after adjusting for other factors, than individuals whose spouses showed no signs of dementia. Husbands had a significantly higher risk of developing dementia than wives.”

There were articles from a couple of years back suggesting that Alzheimer's disesae, like certain prion diseases, could be transmitted through medical procedures.  Here is a rebuttal to that "theory".

The idea put forth by some researchers that Alzheimer's disease was somehow a contagious disease was in my view irresponsible.  

It could be that those taking care of loved ones with dementia may be at greater risk of developing dementia themselves because of a lack of sleep and stress.
