A good day(1)

Yesterday is what I would call a good day on the dementia journey.  (Background...my 95 yr old father has dementia around stage 5 and my 96 yr old mother is his primary caregiver living in their own home).

When I first came here, my biggest worry was that my mother would not consider outside help or moving to independent living facility which had progressive steps of care assistance.

Yesterday, my son, daughter and I went with my folks to tour such a facility near where my son lives.  It seems my mother has now determined that this type of arrangement is what they need.  My dad, who has never been on the "move" page, was cheerful, compliant and even a little chatty.

Bottom line is that they did put down a deposit and are on waiting list for type of apartment that has certain criteria my mother feels they need.  She doesn't think she wants to move before spring, but we will continue to try to convince her that if "the" apartment comes available before then to make the move sooner.

My mother is also meeting with in-home care facilitator this week, to see about help until the move.

Thank goodness for these major steps.  Now we just pray there is no crisis between now and then.

Wishing good days for all here who are doing their absolute best as caregivers for their LO.
