this is dementia as a SYMPTOM and not the same as Alzheimer's

we know this because it says

“These results have been confirmed in randomized clinical trials showing cognition improves when antipsychotic dosage is reduced.”

Many drugs depress cognition while you take them

CDC Dementia is not a specific disease but is rather a general term for the impaired ability to remember, think, or make decisions that interferes with doing everyday activities

Thank you for the article, Michael.  While more work needs to be done on this, I found the following passages from the article well-worth considering:

"Antipsychotic exposure has been linked to worse cognition in both cross-sectional and longtitudinal observation studies," the researchers write. "These results have been confirmed in randomized clinical trials showing cognition improves when antipsychotics dosage is reduced."

The researchers note that antipsychotics have also been found to cause cortical thinning and loss of gray matter and that studies have concluded that this is not due to the underlying “illness” but to the drug’s impact on the brain. "This association is not explained by illness duration or symptom severity, suggesting that antipsychotic exposure itself drives coritical loss," they write.
