This coming Saturday I am leaving for a weeks respite in the Allagash Wilderness Area of Northern Maine. I am going with my niece and we will be totally off the grid, we had to rent a satellite phone in case of an emergency. This is a trip my niece & I have talk about taking for the past 15 years and finally all the stars aligned so I could not pass it up. My stepdaughter and our caregiver will be with DW while I am gone. Into the wild!

    Joe,

Enjoy your trip...everyone deserves time off from their job, be it paid or not.

Take care, avoid the wild life and let the beauty of the location seep into your mind.

Oooh!  I wish you well, but I am so jealous.  What an adventure.  We live close to the Appalachian trail where it runs through PA and I often wonder what it would be like to hike from Maine to  Georgia. Have a wonderful time!

I think you can root for the Sox from Maine Joe.  Even if you can't listen to it on the radio, will give you something to look forward to when you return to wifi/cellphone reach!!

I used to be able to see the lights of Fenway from my Brookline apartment, and we would walk to many games ('85-90, Roger Clemens before steroids).  In the '86 series, we would hear the crowd roar on television and hear it come in our back door 10 seconds later.  I have forgiven Bill Buckner now.  Last time I was in Boston (2010), I paid $300 for a third-row seat behind the dugout to watch them play the Yankees-something I had never done before.  Big Papi was wonderful!!  It was worth every penny.

Have a great time.  This will be something you and your niece remember for a long time to come.

I’m back from my trip to The Great North Woods! It was really rejuvenating to get away and spend some time in nature. I’m going to try to attack a few pictures from my trip, hope I do it correctly.

Hi Joe, I'm so glad to hear you got this respite. I get the weekly few hours off, but an overnight relief would be heaven. I hope you can make it a regular thing.

Joe, great fall colors in those photos!  I’m glad you were able to get away and have some respite. Lately, I have come to appreciate the importance of time away from the dementia care rat race. I think sometimes we immerse ourselves in our LOs care to the point we don’t care for ourselves. Be good to yourself.
