Medicine

I've noticed daddy chews his medicine tablets now instead of swallowing them whole. There are some medicines that should not be chewed so I'm checking into that. Has anyone else run into a situation like that?  It's a battle to get him to take his meds sometimes and I have to watch that he actually takes them or he puts them in his pocket or puts them in his cup as if he's trying to avoid taking them.

    Hi Mobile -

We don't have the chewing problem, but we have great difficulty getting her to take them. (there are 2 supposed to be about 12-hrs apart)

True - some are time-release and some just have to get into the system.  But maybe check with the PrimCare doc - see if they have suggestions. You could check with the pharmacist and see which ones could be chewed without any consequence and which ones absolutely not and go from there.

I would check in with the pharmacist where you get the meds. Some drugs cannot be crushed, but many can. It could be that it is not a problem and however he is willing to take them is great. It's also good to know which ones can be crushed so that if he ever refuses you can crush them up and hide them in pudding or similar. If he is prone to pocketing them either in the side of his cheek or literally in his pocket you may need to crush and hide them. But do check with a pharmacist.
