Help to find missing objects

I am trying to figure out how to help my mother who is very often trying to locate things my father has misplaced.

My dad's cane is one of the objects which often goes missing.  I am wondering how to attach an air tag or other such locator device to a cane which has no wrist strap or other obvious area to attach to.  My mother does not have a smart phone so will need a device which has its own locator unit.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

If the cane is wooden, you can attach a screw eye to it.  Drill a pilot hole before you screw it in to prevent splitting the wood.  Then tie the tracker to the screw eye, in a small bag of some sort.  You can buy a little bag of tobacco with draw strings, throw away the contents, and put the tracker in the bag.

My wife loses her cane sometimes, because she uses it only part time.  When I used a cane part time, I lost it too.
