Daddy is in stage 7b

Daddy came home today to inhome hospice. The nurse came out shortly after the transport ambulance left and gave him the initial home assessment.

Before he passed out at home 2 weeks ago he was able to move around on his own a little. Now that he's been in the hospital for 2 weeks he is bedridden and can't feed himself. He was treated for a UTI and dehydration when in the hospital but is very weak. I can barely hear him when he talks. He's always been soft-spoken but now it's barely above a whisper.

The nurse said he is in stage 7b and the next thing to expect is for him to not have upper body control, meaning not able to lift his shoulders or his head.

I'm glad he's home but I don't feel he'll be home long. Hope I'm wrong for selfish reasons but know he misses my mother terribly. He just gazes around the room and I can't tell what he's thinking.

A UTI can be devastating. Please do testt to see that it is gone.

Being in the hospital also takes a toll. I would not be at all surprised if he recovers some.

7b???? He is going to make his journey in his own time but do enjoy time with him. You are good medicine!

Your post is very similar to where I am at with my 95 year old mom. Only we are due to come home tomorrow and start hospice Sunday..she had severe dehydration and a touch of pneumonia.  She has been in the hospital since Columbus Day.  All the admission issues seem to have been resolved so now we go home and see how she does.  She often develops agitation refuses to eat or drink.  Even when calm she will only take a few bites or a sip.  She does take seroquel which is the only thing so far that seems to help.
