A Sweet Moment

We've started hospice care for my mom. It's incredibly difficult to get her to eat, so we know we don't have much time. But since we've started hospice care and I moved back down here to be nearby for the next several weeks, she's become so much more vocal and responsive. I've had conversations with her over the last several days when I haven't been able to get more than "okay" or "yeah" out of her for at least a year.

One of the few things she'll "eat" is the coffee latte flavor of the Ensure protein shakes, so we use that to give her meds and try and get as many nutrients into her as possible. This interaction happened this morning, and it made my heart so full:
Me: Do you want some more?
Mom: What?
Me: Do you want some more chocolate (what she calls the protein drink, when she refers to it)?
Mom: What?
Me: Do you want some more chocolate?
Mom: What?
Me: Oh, you're just repeating yourself, huh? Aren't you funny.
Mom, firmly and with a big smile: Yes!
