Emergency hearing went well.  Our CELA attorney was great.  To quote my little brother, " it was like we brought an uzi to a knifefight."  Permanent trust agreement is pending.  I expect an irrevocable trust and care manager to be in place a little after Thanksgiving.  No guarantee to actually see Dad, but a very trusted and qualified trustee was appointed.  Stepmother magically found a more recent 2013 dpoa and will that split everything between her and us kids.  This directed the attorney ad litem's actions I'm sure.  The threat of going to the FBI about the email hack shenanigans by stepmother gave her the incentive to sign the house back into the trust.  I think her attorney is also worried about his bar license as well.  This is basically the same agreement my siblings and I wanted in place before lawyers got involved.  Sigh. Stepsister will be limited to food and lodging, so no more freeloading which is a big relief.  The only bittersweet part is my Dad with his controlling nature bypassed us kids in lieu of his grandkids instead.   This is okay because all us kids have degrees, good jobs and own our own homes.  Dad has always focused on money to try to control us.  I'm not really upset about any inheritance, but the feeling disowned still hurts.

That's great news Mikela.  I know it's been very, very difficult.  Don't let the disinheritance get to you.  My mother did that to me, too and yes, it's always about control.

Quilting brings calm

I’m glad you are turning this all over to a third party.  It was never going to be peaceful for you otherwise.  Don’t sweat the money bypassing you for the kids.  As you’ve said, your generation doesn’t need it and your kids might.  Knowing that they have an inheritance coming  allows you to live your retirement a little bigger.
